0.5 l bottle. Sampled in Riga. Pours deep mahogany with khaki head. Bready malt aroma along with some light hop scent. Nice full mouthfeel, it is thick and malty. Some nutty, caramely flavors. Not much sweetness, which earns it points. Some off flavors/armoas like dirty dishwater, as well. And a little bitterness in the aftertaste. An ok Latvian dark.

Bottled as "Kimmel Rigas Tumsais" (BB 02/2007). Dark rubycolor, good tan head. Sweet caramelly aroma of fudge. Medium-bodied. Creamy mouthfeel. Caramelly with malty finish. Sort of "the brewery is not the most modern" -feeling here - some flavors are unclean.

Bottled. Ruby red colour, small beige head. Aroma at first quite caramnellish and malty. Flavour at this point was caramellish malty too. Once it gets a bit warmer both flavour and aroma starts to live. Flavour gets a bit sweetness, fruitishness and plums in it. Flavour gets Sweet malts, caramel, a weak sting of alcohol and some hoppyness in it. So, I would say, good session beer both warm and cold. Oh well, it seems like a beer which is kind of divided, hate it or love it... I’ll compromise and like it.

Dark brown color, little vanishing head. Caramel and malty aroma, this seems to be common to these local "tumsais" beers. Differing from other local dunkels, this is not so full bodied and sweet flavored, this only has lots of carbonation and strong hops. Dark beer that tastes like bad pale one, absolutely NOT one of my favourites.

Horrible horrible beer. The Latvians I know wont even touch the stuff. Has to be ice cold to drink. I had a customer explain the taste. He said it was like eating browned hamburger. That's not really good.

JPDIPSO (4957) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 1, 2003
Deep amber brown color with a foamy beige head. Nearly no aroma, perhaps a bit of celery. Light fruity flavors of the front, turning to a cheap cream sherry taste. A strange lager that tastes better as it gets warmer. Actually not as bad as the other Kimmel products I have tried, but certainly not a "quality" brew.

Man this was just a bad beer. Save yourself the trouble and buy a different dark beer. Just bad.

Not very good really. kind of nice color, but a taste that can only be descibed as bad. Tastes like something died inside and rotted a bit before I opened it. But it did look kind of tasty.

Sweet caramel aroma and even looks somewhat appetizing, but it has a very strange flavor profile. It does kinda taste spoiled. The aroma is actually more like used cooking oil. The bitterness is way off balance and the malt flavor tastes artificial. I kinda feel bad for the people of Latvia.
