3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Elwood (1834) - Between a rock and a hard place, Virginia, USA - OCT 29, 2011
Serving: 12 oz. bottle. It pours a hazy, light amber color with a dense, off-white head. The nose has a little pine and pale malt. The favor has a nice mix of hops and malt with notes of pine resin and a slight nuttiness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. A pretty average pale ale.
2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Travlr (4540) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - OCT 9, 2011
Draft. Not very pale. Aroma of raw dough. Taste of sweet caramel at the start and a bitter finish.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 MmmcKay (841) - Brentwood, Tennessee, USA - OCT 5, 2011
Pour is golden with a nice head. Darker than most pale ales. This is a pretty high ABV for a APA though. Malty nose. Smells of malts and grains. There are some earthy hops in there but definitely in the background. Some spice as well. The taste is malty and grainy. The texture is a bit gritty and grainy as well. There’s some hop bitterness. Some earth and spice, but it just doesn’t come together for me. It’s heavy and heavy handed with the malt profile. The beer said best by April of next year I think. So while the beer was fresh, it didn’t taste fresh.
2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 10/20 alobar (1866) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 20, 2011
Clear copper color with an off-white head that vanishes quickly. Light aroma of pine and caramel. Likewise, flavor is minimal-some caramel and a touch of pine. Creamy mouth feel is this beer’s best characteristic. Disappointing.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BlackWarrior (139) - Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA - AUG 20, 2011
Pours brownish amber with a light tan head that lingered a little. A subtle, brief aroma of malts and maple syrup with pine and citrus. Medium bodied, aggressively carbonated and has full, smooth mouthfeel. Flavor starts with sweet malt, maple syrup and biscuits and is well balanced w/ battering hops. Overall, a good brew though a bit sweet for the style.

poured a darker amber color with mild head and lacing. has a very sweet smell. i agree with the maple character. more taste of malt and a roasted flavor than hoppy. slight alcohol burn at the finish. not a very memorable beer
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 tia (276) - Sandston, Virginia, USA - JUL 26, 2011
Copper with very little head and lots of lacing. I got light pina aroma with more sweetness (maple?) as it warmed. Tasted a little smoked to me then turning to a pretty decent hop. Hard on roof of mouth, softer on tongue.
