[Cask at Archery Tavern, Paddington, London] A nut brown beer with no head. The aroma is sweet with notes of nuts - a quite faint aroma. The flavor is sweet nutty and fruity.

Don’t normally drink beers from closed down breweries produced by the predator as a sop to local sensibilities but in the interest of research gave this one a go. Mid-amber in colour with a reasonable lasting head, balanced hop character, although little aroma and a flavour mostly of toffee. Actually enjoyed it more than I had anticipated. Out of deference to the county of my grandmother’s birth however, will not be drinking it except under dire circumstances!

First tasted this in Coanes, Johnstone in April 1990. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear russet in colour with a thin white head. Slight whiff of sweet caramel in the brief aroma. Thin mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt gives a digestive teabiscuit note with sweet caramel laced through. Dusty hop resins give a dry earthy flavour to the short aftertaste. Finish is rather short with malt present along with raisin fruit. An ok session bitter.

28.09.2007. On tap at the Ship & Shovel in London. Reddish brown colour with a small white head. Malty with a little sweetnes. A little thin body. Aftertaste is also a little weak and ends to soon.

Malty nose with very little straw hop character. Brazen malt and booze in the mouth. Pretty watery.

From notes. Handpull. Clear brown, tan head that disappears quickly, scant lacing. Aroma of nuts and grass. Taste is raisins, plenty of hops, some butterscotch. Decent.

Cask @ Jolly Roger, Burledon. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty caramel aroma. Slightly roasted malty caramel flavor with some hoppy hints. Has a malty caramel finish with some hoppy hints in the aftertaste. .

Cask - Unicorn Inn, Canterbury. A dark, nut brown beer with a foamy, disappearing off-white head, which leaves a full lacing. Sweet caramel malts, fruit notes and nutty aromas, though all quite faint. Again, a pleasant, light sweet caramel tone in the flavour with a good hoppy bitter finish. Would be good for sessioning; light and easy-drinking but still plenty of flavour. Don’t be fooled by the 3.5%.

Cask, that Hall and Woodhouse pub in Horsham town centre. Tea-like amber with a film of suds. Tang of yeast, biscuity malts, bags of boredom. Astringent and tired. Lingering bad nut bitterness. Pretty much interchangeable with the Badger First Gold. Barmaid misunderstood my order and wanted to tip my 2 halves together. Might as well have done.
