Bottle, pours very carbonated to a slightly cloudy golden colour with a large white frothy head that disapated quite quickly. Definitely a grainy and sweet malt aroma with just a touch of hops and fruit (pinneaple) to spice it up. Quite a refreshing palate - gassy, but too offensively so. A sour malty flavour, not too much going on there, doesn’t drink like its 8% though. Overall OK, nothing amazing, but would be good with spicy food (and that must be the idea mustn’t it?).

A night in Whitely Bay ended as all good nights in Northern England should end - with a damn good curry!!! This accompanied by rocket-fuelled beer makes for a great night and a not so great after hours recovery. This was the poison, not the curry. Tasted at the Tadkir Restaurant, East Parade (the best curry in the world as voted by myself and maybe my wife!). Pours an oily, pale gold with a fantastically charged, white pad of foam that left very little evidence upon the glass. Candi, honey and warming alcohol nose, not much else. Body holds in it the alcohol and the residual sweetness making it quite full in the mouth for a lager. Sweet, well presented mouthfeel that borders oily but is kept alive by the bubbly carbonation. A little tangerine, a touch of drier malts and some bready yeast build as it goes. Finish is smooth and warming but by this time the vindaloo had kicked in and burnt my damn throat. This was average, and I could have honestly gone a bottle of Grolsch over this. Just another strong lager.

75ml bottle from Sainsbury. Golden colour with fluffy lasting white head. Creamy lager aroma with good hops. Smooth in mouth, but not a lot of flavour and then crisp finish. But the flavours fade quickly. Fine, but not a lot of presence in the mouth or on the finish. The alcohol for me doesn’t spoil it.

In short: A boring characterless Strong Golden Beer
How: Tasting session at brother’s place. Bottle, fresh from a Massachusetts store.
The look: clear blonde body with a small white head that quickly disappears completely
In long: A fizzy drink (despite lack of head) with a lean body. Flavorless bread, honey, white grapes and red/green apples. Overall not very flavorful at all. Alcohol apparent. That almost felt like a cheap carbonated white wine. Body quickly becomes totally dead. Supposed to be one of those beer brewed using champagne techniques but trust me this is no Malheur Brut or even Deus Brut. Sold in the USA for to much $$$ as Krait Prestige… ohh, sounds fancy. So does Royal With Cheese.

A Mes rate: Bottle thanks to our Terry.
Clear golden with a rapidly dissapating head that ends up as nothing. Sweet fruity and alcoholic aroma with not much else happening. Tangy flavour with random fruit and hops, topped of with some obvious but inoffensive alcohol. Artificially sweet. As expected not even a hint of Rodenbach in there but it is certainly better than the regular Cobra.
