Very good beer and the main brew for my ’retirement’ party this coming friday. It’s no Boynr River brown, but it’s rich and tasty stuff.

Nice head and good lace, this tap beer was a very pleasant surprise. I was tagging along on a ’girls night out’ and the bar maid was so concerned I wouldn’t like it she insisted on my trying a sample before buying a pint. I was very happy with it and look forward to going back. Smooth taste, with the right level of malt and a touch of hops in the background. More please!

The appearance impressed me for a Brown ale, and so did the body. A lot of King’s beers need just a touch more body to them, but I like this one. You can definately get the nutty, malty smell on the nose, and same goes for the palate.

Tap. Nice dark ale, coffee colored head with great lacing. Malty goodness with great mouthfeel. This is my second sampling of King’s but it’s my fav. so far.

Yet another solid Michigan brown ale. This one is hugely malty, big and round and full on the tongue like a nicely played, drawn out note from a french horn. It rolls toward being too sweet, but now and then the hops nudge it back in line so it never gets cloying. I discovered this brewery only recently, though it’s just 6 miles from my house, and now I’m moving hundreds of miles north. Sigh.

Poured a dark brown with small tan head. Sweet malty aroma. Nice roasted malt flavor with a little bit of hops thrown in. Very easy drinking.

UPDATED: OCT 13, 2005 This is well-done brown ale. Nothing fancy, no gimmicks (its textbook to the point of being a tad boring). Very, very mild. It’s a dark brown, with a real nice lace persistent through out. Hardly any hops, and slight brown malt taste with an ever so slender touch of almond. Little watery on one hand, but, for some reason, I don’t mind the thinness in this one that much. Its actually very thirst quenching. A true session beer, this would be great washing down some fish and chips. I enjoyed its simplicity and would buy it again. Its nice to see a local micro-brewer take such a humble approach to things for once.
Rerate: After further consideration via my mug, i have to lower the score a bit. Just a little too thin/boring

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a small light tan head that dissiaptes to a very thin outer ring. Nose is roasty caramel malt, brown sugar, roasty grain, toasted oat, little bit of firepit. Medium body with a light fizziness and a film. Flavors of ashtray, light roast notes, stale nuts.

Bottle... First impression was not good. My bottle was way overcarbonated. It took me thirty minutes just to pour myself a glass. Other than that, I enjoyed every sip of this textbook brown ale. Opaque, dark brown with a large, frothy, khaki head. Very good retention. The nose is floral and malty with all the nutty, chocolatey characteristics associated with the style. Rich, malty flavor (but decently balanced) with lots of chocolate, toasted nuts and toffee. Just enough bittering to keep it from being cloyingly sweet. Medium-bodied and very creamy with mild carbonation. Chocolatey, roasty finish. Fine brown ale.

I messed up and poured this out with an entire glass full of foam. Bottle is from Jim (walleye) Thanks! Pours dark brown, with a giant head (probably due to me not letting it settle out after shipping). Smells malty, rich, fruity. Taste is sweet and has a sort of metallic aftertaste that is not unpleasant, but not really desired either. Its sweet and pleasing to drink, as most brown ales are. This could easily be a session beer. Not bad at all.
