Authentic Munich Dunkel Style Lager 4.8% alc./vol. King Brewery's newest addition is this authentic Munich-style Dark Lager. Using only the finest imported Dark Munich Malt and Noble German Hops, combined with brewing in our authentic German decoction brewhouse, gives this beer King's trademark "true to style" aroma and flavour. This delicious beer is red-brown in colour, with a thick tan coloured head. The palate is rich and full, delivering a clean bready taste with a hint of toasted chocolate, while sporting elegant lace lines to the bottom of your glass. This unique Dark Lager is complex yet clean. Enjoy it with all European continental style foods and cheeses, or just as a well deserved cold one. Extremely flavourful, balanced and deliciously refreshing, our Dark Lager has to be tasted to be appreciated!

UPDATED: AUG 18, 2004 Rerate 8/18/04 Sweeter and less hoppy than before, bit of chocolate notes at first become more like caramel as it warms up. Bit of toasted malt. An improvement from before, I think they must have tweaked this one. <P> Initial Rating: Darkish amber, bit of a hoppy bite to it but not a lot of bitterness. OK mouthfeel, Lingering aftertaste was not unpleasant. Hops are strongly reminiscent of their pilsener. Not bad but unexciting. 5/3/5/3/12

Small greige head over cola-coloured beer. Green leaves, bay leaf, dark chocolate malts, rather fresh smelling, and faint bready notes. Quite "true to style". Bèènggg! (see above and following). Tastes like a (watered down) stout; burnt grains, little or no sweetness initially. Retronasal some ashes, and at that time, finally some restsugars, if little. Faint burning sensation, generally rather thinnish. Very roasted, stout-like Dunkel, as if they had no idea how a Dunkel really tastes, and they did experiment. Which is also fun.

Bottle, brought by Robbie from Kingston. Pours a dark brown with a dense vanilla head. Sweet dark caramel aroma, chocolate. Rich dark caramel flavour, some cocoa, roasted bitterness rounds out the finish. Good flavour density, enjoyable.

[717-20070928] Cask @ C’est What 2007 FOSB (Toronto, ON; "Unfiltered"). Faint coffee malt aroma. Dark brown body with a quick bubbly off-white head. Coffee and toffee caramel malt flavour has a little maple. Medium-full body has some astringency and is a little bitter. Nice and nutty.

(Bottle, Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Dark reddish brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, nose with notes of dark bread and caramel. Malty taste with dark fruit, dark bread, caramel and a hint of prunes. Hardly exciting, but clean and fresh.

Brown, with light haze, small creamy top. Soft malty aroma, bready nose with gentle woody character. Soft bodied, light with light acidic character. Neat malty brew, with just light hop touch.

It was looking like a dark lager should. Dark golden amber hue. Nice thick white head . Bitter , slightly acidic , some wood and fruits . Very interesting aroma. Sadly it was a bit thin in body, hops played well here.

Draught at Bar Volo. Pours a bubbly dark reddish-brown with a spare white head. Mild aroma of caramel malt and grain, maybe a bit of dark fruit. Flavour of caramel malt, a touch of chocolate and some vague hops. Pretty well balanced for what it is. Decent enough, I’d have it again.
