Authentic Munich Dunkel Style Lager 4.8% alc./vol. King Brewery's newest addition is this authentic Munich-style Dark Lager. Using only the finest imported Dark Munich Malt and Noble German Hops, combined with brewing in our authentic German decoction brewhouse, gives this beer King's trademark "true to style" aroma and flavour. This delicious beer is red-brown in colour, with a thick tan coloured head. The palate is rich and full, delivering a clean bready taste with a hint of toasted chocolate, while sporting elegant lace lines to the bottom of your glass. This unique Dark Lager is complex yet clean. Enjoy it with all European continental style foods and cheeses, or just as a well deserved cold one. Extremely flavourful, balanced and deliciously refreshing, our Dark Lager has to be tasted to be appreciated!

Bottled sample from pootz. Dark brown in colour with some hints of red. Aromas of caramel, apple skin, and roasted malt. Medium carbonation, but very light bodied. There are more assertive roasted flavors in the mouth, somewhat akin to some acidic cold coffee. There’s a bit of a fruity molassas note that, although minor, kinda dirties up the whole experience.

6 pack LCBO purchase- Dark crimson with brownish hues. Foamy heady off white fluff sits above. Some pretty lacing accompanies. Nose is filled with caramel malts, followed by an earthy breadiness. Mouth is full of sweet malt and raisin bread. Bitterness to follow. Slight acidity leaves me docking a few points for taste and overall. Generally well balanced and well made. King does it again!

bottle from Mr_Kinchee; Dark amber with a beautiful tall tan head, but that fades quickly. Toasty nose, wonderful soft medium body, very, VERY smooth going down. Nutty and warming, with only small hints of sour lager yeast. Flavor is long and it finishes toasty and full of malty flavor. What an unexpected smooth treat!

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2007 From the fermentor at the brewery: A dunkel in the raw "zwickle dunkel"....best drinking there is...dark chestnut , murky with ruby high lights...billowing creamy mocha cap and lacing. Sweet cocoa and toasty malts and nuts in the aroma, chewy toasted malt and earthyness in the flavor with a woody-herbal decernment before the bready finish. Creamy mouthfeel Wonderful! This is how all beer should be served....and for those who have sampled this, and the filtered dark, you now know how much flavor is lost to the filter. I hope Phil sells the Pilsner and bocks unfiltered to select accounts as well.

First bike ride of the year...toured to Hamilton for a pint. Quaffed one of these at the judge because the Denison’s was out. Poured a red-copper color with a small head that laced out after about 3 min. Aromas of boiled grains and carmel with a slight wisp of hop. Started big up front with a malt wallop and then the carmel-toffee tastes came through in an oily body that finished very mildly with a lingering sweet malty taste. A nice draft brew...I’ll have another bill ;-) Updated 28/08/04.....tried the bottled version more carbonation, larger rocky tan head....same aromas and the taste was slightly different in the finish which seemed to be more hop pronounced this time around.

UPDATED: APR 9, 2007 One of the nicest surprises I’ve had from the local Micro scene. A sixer I bought was completely OFF, so this is rating it on draught at BeerBistro: Translucent deep coppery brown, fairly active, tall head. Almost a bock aroma, sweetish honeyed malts. which follow suit in the tasting... hops are concealed in the flavor envelope which is balanced, malty, smooth, and lightly crisp. Pleasingly crisp yet malty, the quintessential fresh local session beer if you buy it strictly fresh. A bit light on the palate but that’s exactly what I want sometimes. Well worth buying in a very fresh six-pack.

Bright copper, little white head. Sweet malt and light fruit in the nose - just a touch of citrus hops. Slight roasty hops in the body, light sweet malt. Caramelly with light hops at the end.

Clear, somewhat bright dark orange-amber. Thin tan head. Mildly fruity, slightly toasty aroma. Medium, carbonated water feel. Fairly clean malt flavour of toast, bread, & caramel. Mild-medium bitterness.
