3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours deep copper with a thick foamy off white head. Sweet malty aroma with some wood smoke. Flavours are very earth with hints of molases and clovey cider. Old musty apple. Notes of minerals and salt in the finish. Interesting.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This lager pours a dark red colour with a off white head. The aroma includes some nice roasted malts with a sweetish, caramel scent. Maybe a little coffee. First sip is very roasty with a nice charred malt flavour. Starts out slightly sweet but by the finish the bitterness comes in. The taste is also slightly sweet with a very small amount of cocoa. The finish is slightly bitter but pretty good all in all

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
341 ml bottle. Pours reddish brown in colour, nice frothy off-white heads, leaves lots of lacing. Not much aroma or taste, basic dark lager. Not bad, but not outstanding.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very dark red in colour. Strong malty scent. Slightly watery but still keeps a full bodied flavor. Goes through 3 different tastes in the mouth with a clean finish.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Quite a bit of coffee/toffee in this otherwise average dark brew, some fruity presence, dryness in the finish and an oily mouthfeel. Pleasant, a good try from this small, hyperbolically-named brewery.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: JUN 15, 2004 Tasted in Toronto from the LCBO. Tasted in dimple mug. Tasted at just above room temp. Colour is dark, matching the label description. Light thin white wispy head with very caramel sweet scent. Doesn’t feel like a lager, would be absolutely mediocre as an ale. But drinkable

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
After work pour with Janice pours coca cola dark with nary a cap to be found. Aroma is shocking: flat cola? Is that possible? Janice says its "sweet but tasteless" and Steven says "it can’t decide what it is" and I say they are both correct.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUN 3, 2007 341 ml bottle - pours a gorgeous clear dark chestnut/mahogany with a lovely off white head that slowly diminishes leaving delicate lacing all the way down the glass. Aroma sweetly malty with a crisp Noble/Saaz hop character that is similar to the brewer’s pils. Some nice breadiness too, as the glass warms. Flavour is a different thing altogether - some of that sweet maltiness to begin, then a subtle hop bitterness followed by some chocolate and a rich roasty nuttiness that was completely unexpected, but fully welcomed. Finishes with a long mellow mingling of the smooth malt and hop bite. Expertly crafted - perhaps slightly watery, but you can’t really expect a big body in a lager. Beautiful in it’s simplicity and infinitely sessionable. I don’t know why I put off buying this for so long - it’s a mistake I won’t make again. This will definitely become a summer staple in my fridge. King is one of the sleeper brewers in Ontario with a flawless record so far. Keep it up.
