Authentic Munich Dunkel Style Lager 4.8% alc./vol. King Brewery's newest addition is this authentic Munich-style Dark Lager. Using only the finest imported Dark Munich Malt and Noble German Hops, combined with brewing in our authentic German decoction brewhouse, gives this beer King's trademark "true to style" aroma and flavour. This delicious beer is red-brown in colour, with a thick tan coloured head. The palate is rich and full, delivering a clean bready taste with a hint of toasted chocolate, while sporting elegant lace lines to the bottom of your glass. This unique Dark Lager is complex yet clean. Enjoy it with all European continental style foods and cheeses, or just as a well deserved cold one. Extremely flavourful, balanced and deliciously refreshing, our Dark Lager has to be tasted to be appreciated!

UPDATED: JUN 3, 2007 341 ml bottle - pours a gorgeous clear dark chestnut/mahogany with a lovely off white head that slowly diminishes leaving delicate lacing all the way down the glass. Aroma sweetly malty with a crisp Noble/Saaz hop character that is similar to the brewer’s pils. Some nice breadiness too, as the glass warms. Flavour is a different thing altogether - some of that sweet maltiness to begin, then a subtle hop bitterness followed by some chocolate and a rich roasty nuttiness that was completely unexpected, but fully welcomed. Finishes with a long mellow mingling of the smooth malt and hop bite. Expertly crafted - perhaps slightly watery, but you can’t really expect a big body in a lager. Beautiful in it’s simplicity and infinitely sessionable. I don’t know why I put off buying this for so long - it’s a mistake I won’t make again. This will definitely become a summer staple in my fridge. King is one of the sleeper brewers in Ontario with a flawless record so far. Keep it up.

341ml Bottle: Wow, what a tremendous find! Met these guys at an event in Caledon, decided to buy a six to support the locals. Pours a beautiful deep brown with crimson edges, although the head sadly left quickly on the bottle. Scent is amazing, with caramel and chocolate. The taste is exceptional, almost schwarzbier, featuring a lot going on. You can taste sweet caramelized malt, some light grain, chocolate and coffee tones, and only a slight amount of hops near the back. Easily one of my top ones, I swear the rest of you have been drinking something else.

Bottle. Pours dark reddish brown with medium head that fades rather quickly. Faint taste of dark chocolate with barely any hop bite. Good.

Draft. Dark brown pour with a medium head. Weak aroma of caramel, toffee, maybe a hint of roast. Taste is more full with some nut and chocolate notes. Medium body, lower carbonation, easy to drink.

Fascinating crimson/brown with only a slight amount of see-through. Inviting aromas of chocolate and French vanilla coffee, rounded out by some floral hops. A very creamy, nice and round mouthfeel. Chocolate leads the flavour profile, but overall this is not as powerful and layered as expected. While it’s not up to the "Ultra Premium" boast on the label, King Dark certainly is quite enjoyable and well produced for a dark lager.

Barley a finger of head that last for like mabye a one min. Red to light and light ambery red away, more red to light. Smell is like some light cherry(sweetness?),chocolate and light hop. Taste not much to it some of what i think is like a cherry(sweetness?)lightly,a lightly hop taste and some sips have like a lightly chocolate taste. Taste nothing like a lager & not much going to it so whatever. Bye

Nice roasty malt with a nutty taste. Well done dark lager. Reminds me of some of the better beers from the early days of the microbrewery movement.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2007 341ml bottle, courtesy of VeloVampire - pours clear and dark, a beautiful shade of mahogany, with a nice off-white head on top. Aroma is sweet and malty with a subtle toasty/breadiness backing it up. Flavour is beautifully toasty and sweet, nicely bready with a strong nuttiness all the way through. Eminently sessionable, I could easily drink a lot of this over an evening. Very smooth, and you can tell that King is a brewery that is dedicated to craft and quality. I love to see them try a more daring style (at least for the Ontario market anyways). I’d also love to compare this back-to-back with Denison’s magnificent Dunkel.

A very enjoyable beer. Bottle poured a reddish copper with minimal head. The aroma is malty caramel. The flavour starts with carmael and brown sugar, but I can taste the hops underneath. Well balanced.
