2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 JFGrind (1595) - Glenside, USA - JAN 3, 2005
Sweet pale lager that survived the journey from Australia unskunked. Going for $17 USD a case in Philadelphia. Good session beer, bowling pin bottles are unique. I put a few empties aside for home brew bottling.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 ALLOVATE (1719) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - DEC 1, 2010
A rating from way back in 2006 found in an old notebook. Definitely the same beer, though I remember its bottle and label being a lot different from that shown on the left. Sample given to me by an importer. Chilled, into a Pilsner glass. Looks half decent, a mass of highly charged carbonation inside a yellowish gold body, clear as day. Big soufflé of white caps it off, slowly rising in the centre to a peak, impressive. This holds ’til the end and laces the glass nicely. Grassy, dusty old bag of hops on the nose. Inoffensive on the palate, dull sourish malt with a mix of spicy, grassy and slightly sour hops in back. Hint of roasted peanut comes through, some herbal notes linger in the crispish . A little watery, body is light and it moves quickly across the tongue without great harm. Pretty average, nothing offensive at all. Easily quaffable, ’mind-turned-off’ lager! a pale amber color akin to apple juice, a big head to float a bottle cap, a strong malt aroma that grabs at the pit of your stomach, followed by a sweet carmel malt flavor. Just picked up a case at Shangy’s in Emmaus on a close out special for $13 so I shouldn’t bitch, but I will. Not really a summer brew, kind of heavy. Carbonation kind of went flat halfway through. I might use a bottle or two in my roasting pan to roast a couple of racks of ribs. I would skip this and get the Pigs Eye Pilsner for $13 in cans.
Note: this was brewed and bottled in Australia, so maybe it should be paired with a Vegamite sandwich. 4.9% ABV.

375ml bottle. Poured pale yellow in colour with a medium white head and malt aroma. Very thin and watery and lacking in flavour. Average at best.

Bottle. Pours a tarnished copper penny in color with a pure white head. The aroma is slightly musty with an odd malty note. The flavor is very watery with a metalic character to the hops. There really wasn’t much carbonation to speak of. The body is slightly thin and weak.
2.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Choos (507) - Taylors Hill, AUSTRALIA - JUN 28, 2008
Aroma: some light malt and hop with a touch of melon. Appearance: golden amber with a largish white head that flattens reasonably quickly. Flavour: malty and easy to drink but very little hop character. Palate: thin and gently carbonated easy to finish quickly finishes with a touch of the melon tasts.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 TheCaptain (613) - Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 5, 2008
Thin head and pale amber body. Decent malt character that feels good on the pallet. Hints of caramel. A very easy drinking simple beer and you can’t beat the price for a case.

very foamy almost soapy head. amber/gold color. aroma of malts and caramel. lots of soapy lacing left behind and a lot of carbonation. tastes of malt and a bit floral with a bitter after thought. I must say that I’m not a pale lager fan but there is something about this I like. this is an easy drinker. I think I’m going to save what i have of this for the summer. this is going to taste real good in July!
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 afireinside96 (924) - Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 4, 2008
bottle. pours a pale amber with a thin head. a light aroma of caramel is detected. has a thick butterscotch/caramel flavor. no bitterness detected. has a Houdini like finish, that is to say it just disappears. still though I can’t complain, I only paid $14 for a case of it and it is very drinkable if lacking a little complexity.
