Two row malted barley, crystal malt roasted barley & a heavy dose of chocolate malt blended well with French roast coffee, create a complex serious brooding ale.

Bottle: Extremely strong smell of coffee beans. So strong in fact, that if there is any chocolate there, I can’t smell it. Pours a dark brown, virtually black, with a tan head that never really becomes anything. Flavor is almost all black coffee from start to finish. There is some cafe mocha aftertaste, but outside of that, I don’t get any chocolate in the actual flavor. Seems a little thin for a stout. Nice beer if you like coffee, but if you’re looking for a maltier stout because of the "Mocha" in the name, you may want to look elsewhere.

Deep brown-black body, thin creamy tan head. Aroma is all fresh-roasted coffee beans with just a touch of chocolate. Nice medium creamy body with semisweet chocolate leading to coffee beans. Some acidity but it’s kept to a minimum. Well-made and quite flavorful. It looks like this beer’s gone through a few iterations.

bottle: watery brown with a thin bubbly tan head. Nose is pure Colombian coffee beans, roasted to a crunchy hardness. This smells, and even tastes like espresso, and coffee grounds, fresh from the grinder. Very little else goiong on, sort of tough to get over the fact that is a beer and not a coffeee drink. Fortunately, I like coffee, so it was pretty good.

rich mocha aroma with a slight hint of mint, black with a beautiful dark brown head, cherrylike sweetness then a dry coffee roast finish, loved the finish but overall too sweet

Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Festival Saturday July 24, 2004. This draft brew poured a very large head of foamy finely sized long lasting light brown colored bubbles. The body was opaque with no visible carbonation and black-brown in color. The aroma was very good with nice coffee and malt notes. The mouth feel was very smooth and well balanced with a smooth finish. The flavor contained amounts of coffee malt and roasted barley. One of my show favorites!

Nice thick dark brown pour settling inky black and opaque as paint, nice thick and luscious foamed finger high head of cocoa brown, crumbles down to a hazy skim and the lacing sticks in thin mega sheeting and globs. Gorgeous brew to set your eyes to. Aroma is all roasted coffee bean, very nice roasty tone, crispy burnt black malt sweetness sets within and some slight hints to some darkened vanilla and hazelnut. Taste has more of a smoother mild tone across the roastyness then what the smell leads one to believe, but is still nice. The front is dullish sweet with darkened malten sweetness and some touches of dry chocolate and vanilla. Keeps a good roasty edge throughout leading to the finish where the coffeeness really takes over with a good Ol’ cup of Joe dryness and roast of fresh made coffee. Espresso even - deep and roasted. Chocolatey leftovers meld within the finish late and it lingers for a good while. Quite a nice display in the finish. Feel is about medium, creamy, very smooth and slick until the late finish where the coffee and chocolate make for some excellent drying qualities that linger and that certain twinge of bitterness that is usually associated with both. It could be more fuller, thick, and bold, but that finish is just lovely. This was a nice surprise, a nice example of what adding coffee to a stout can do. I’m curious as to the ABV and the amount of coffee, cuz i can feel that buzz of caffine mixing in my head along with the alcohol. Not as dramaticly expressive as Bell’s Java Stout or the Speedway by Alesmith, but damn if I’m not a believer of this fine potpourri. My brain is splitting, one wants to sleep the other wants to build a fort. I could possibly have more but I might get to wired and drive my wife crazy, or crazier then I already do.

Poured a dark brown with very thin tan bubbly head. Strong coffee smell. Strong coffee taste throughout. They over did this one with just too much coffee bean taste.

Black, opaque. Extreme coffee bean nose. Expresso-like. chocolate/mocha undertones are barely present. Too coffee-like. not very stout-like. Reminds me of trying to choke down very strong expresso. not enjoyable beer.

2004 bottle. Pours a mostly clear dark brown with plenty of tans and beiges around the edges. Good-sized light coffee colored head. Aroma is powerfully full of coffee beans. Espresso, bitter coffee rinds. Opens up with a big smack in the face of coffee beans. Not coffee that you drink, but a coffee bean that you crunch on. Like those chocolate covered coffee beans, minus the chocolate. Yikes, I guess these guys forgot about the beer. Consistency is watery, if there is beer in this, it's not easy to tell.
