(12oz bottle) Small brown head atop a black body. Aroma is medium sweet, coffee, roast, some unpleasant burnt, bittersweet chocolate. Taste is medium sweet, coffee, roast, some bittersweet chocolate, light burnt. Medium body, alcohol well hidden -- is it really 9%?

Bottle... TITW Part Deux... Pitch black ale with a small, frothy, light brown head. Good retention. The aroma and flavor are a harmonious marriage of rich, dark roast coffee beans, cocoa and campfire smoke. Leans on the sweet side of balance. Medium-bodied and very fizzy. Crisp, chocolate, coffee finish. Kudos to artusory for providing the bottle!

12oz bottle acquired in trade (I didn’t write down from who - if it was you, let me know!). Poured a dark black color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of coffee (but not strong or overpowering), roast, caramel, and light chocolate. Tastes, which all or which was on the thin side, of chocolate, coffee, and roast. Body is thin and bordering on watery. WIth Java in the name, I would expect it to have a stronger presence. Is the 9% listed a mistake!?

Pours a light-absorbing black with dark brown edges and a thin dark tan head. Mildly sweet chocolatey aroma has a touch of coffee. Starts with a thin, mild sweetness, balanced with bittering coffee and a lingering, thin mocha finish. An ok stout, but could use a little more body.

Charred woody coffee and dark chocolate scent. Too much coffee man (heh) - reminds me of rancid vegetables at times, with that lactic sour spoiled moss flavor. Bad bad bad. Sorry, not my thing.

Bottled. Poured medium-viscosity deep brown with very little head forming (and even less sticking around). The aroma picked up a nice medium coffee roast with a bit of chocolate.. those malts really block out all else, and I enjoyed it. The flavor was centered by the coffee, with a bit of a syrupy complexion to it.. bitter and slightly stale finish, with a little alcohol warmth. Medium + bodied with a lot of carbonation that didn’t work so well.. sweet and bitter finish. This was better than expected.

This Stout’s dark brown body is nearly black and its one-fingered cocoa head vanishes rapidly. The aroma is roasted malts, old coffee, and a touch of licorice. Luckily the latter disappears in the flavor, which is basically roasted malt and coffee with a hit of roasted barley bitterness. The listed ABV, which seems high after drinking the ale, is well hidden throughout.

First off, Mocha Java is a type of coffee and has NOTHING to do with chocolate...Bottled: Opaque with a fading frothy tan head and good lace. The aroma has notes of espresso, toasted and burnt malts, light bittersweet chocolate (from the malt), floral and dusty. The taste is also quite bittersweet with a large dose of java in the mid and finish. The aftertaste has some sweetness lingering. The feel has a crispness along the side of the tongue but is a bit chalky overall. I liked this but then again I like coffee. If this is up your alley then by all means enjoy one of these.
