Silphium (2006), Lansing, Michigan, USA Aug 26, 2005 Hazy light orange body, big puffy off-white head. Floral, citrusy hops aroma. Toasty body with piney, citrusy hops, and definitely on the bitter side. Biscuity. Not bad, but fairly nondescript. SuIIy (1107), W Newton, Massachusetts, USA Aug 12, 2005 Bottel @ union street saloon Detroit, MI. Pours a nice golden orange color with a small, white, foamy head. Nose is hoppy and sweet with some light floral notes. Taste is lots of hopps with some caramel and malt mixed in creating a sweetness. Bitterness in the finish and a dry throat feeling. Styles (1653), Taylor, Michigan, USA Mar 3, 2005 Tap: orangish amber color with decent white head that fades fast. Besides a little citrus, there is almost no aroma. Taste is all bitter hops. Just o.k. 11026 (1886), USA Feb 6, 2005 Tap. Medium amber in color. Nice off-white head. Nice lacing. Citrus and piney hop aromas. A bit hop dominant in flavor but not horribly so. Lingering grapefruit rind flavor in the finish. Decent. Pailhead (2310), Allen Park, Michigan, USA Oct 5, 2004 Bottle: Very sweet and malty aroma. Lots of caramel and only very light hops. Pours a dark transparent amber with a decent off-white head with fair retention. Very nice lacing. Very malty. Lots of caramel in the flavor. Only a touch of hops in the finish. Light caramel aftertaste. Real soft mouthfeel. The one word that describes this beer the best would be "caramel." Not as hoppy as you'd expect in an American Pale Ale, but still very good. Probably not the best example of the style because there is so little hops in the flavor.
