UPDATED: APR 15, 2010 341 ml bottle - pours clear light honey with a large thick and frothy white head that lasts and lasts and leaves beautiful lacing. Delicate, champagne-like carbonation. Aroma very fruity and grassy with light caramel malt. So far, very true to style. Flavour is a delicious balance of sweet grainy malt and crisp, flowery hops. A note of white grape as well. Nice dry finish with that true-to-pils-style Saaz bite. Excellent stuff, and I had forgotten how good it is when fresh. A perfect rediscovery just in time for the start of warm days.

UPDATED: SEP 17, 2006 20060916 Rerate - Draught @ beerbistro, Toronto: This is one I plan to revisit as I improve my palate, so it felt like time last night at beerbistro. The draught was excellent with a delicate carbonation and light head; aroma is still sweet with floral hops to me. Drinking a fresh draught sample in the proper glass does wonders, the flavour hits properly with the bitterness subdued and well placed with the malts taking a more prominent role to balance things out this time. Highly recommended, and a stunning representation of the style.
20060723 Original - 355ml Bottle: I’ll note that Czech pilsner is not my favourite type of beer, so this review rates quality to the style, not necessarily to my taste. Pours slightly cloudy with basically no carbonation at all. Sweet scent with hints of flowers and hops. Flavour hits strong on the hops from start to finish, quite bitter, almost reminded me of a proper IPA (not Alex Keith’s drivel). You can tell they’ve taken this seriously, and fans of the style won’t be disappointed.

Pours clear golden brown colour with little head that fades right away. Looks pretty carbonated. Tastes the same way. Not that great but I’m glad I tried it.

Pours a light golden colour with decent carbonation and a proper white cap. The aroma is grain mostly, a little bit of grass, surprisingly very little hops. The flavour is very bready, with some good dry hoppy flavour in the middle, and a touch of honey at the end. All and all, a pretty good beer, on par with creemore’s attempt

Very hoppy for a pilsener. I was told this was supposed to be a bohemian style pilsener. The hop bill was probably right, but the malt bill was light, resulting in a 4% beer with the hops to balance the residual sugars of a 5.5% beer. It is too hoppy and light for the style, but well worth trying. Crisp, fresh, bitter, light, herbal. A very late hopping with saaz hops could improve this one alot. It was a bit over carbonated for my taste.

Bottle. It’s golden and well carbonated in a tall pilsner flute. The head is relatively thick with some wisps of lacing on the glass. In the aroma there is lots of hay, some bread and butter, dandelion with light grassy hops behind. Mouthfeel is light to medium in body, slightly chewy. The flavour is fairly grassy with more dandelion, grain, plenty of buttery malt. The finish lingers just a bit with more grass and grain.

Well I have a feeling that this might be better than I gave it credit for, and the taste of the previous bad beer was still in my mouth. It was very pale yellow with thin head and a bit of lacing. Definitely grassy aromas and a crisp meadow-ish flavour. The giveaway that it might be decent was that I finally got a nice bitter finish - I need to try this again.

Features distilled water, to allegedly mimic the quality of water found in the Czech Republic (the birthplace of the lager [pilsner] style of brewing). Warm, bold-gold brew is exactly what you’d expect from a premium pilsner. Innocent aromas of sweet cereal and canned pineapple are soon followed by a devious bite of bitterness that heads straight for the sinuses. This same woody bitterness is immediately apparent in the taste, which imparts an especially rewarding experience for those who enjoy bitter brews. It is said that an appreciation of bitterness is the last taste sensation to evolve on your tongue. How evolved are you?

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2005 Nice touch of bitterness running through this one. Better than most pilseners, a nice pick for the cottage.

341ml bottle, 4.8% a/v
Tasted after reading a profile in TAPS magazine.
Pours a very well carbonated light golden colour. Not a very large head however, could be due to poorly washed glassware (IE, With jetdry)
The nose is very bready and surprisingly very little hops in the smell. The taste is another story, starts off with a chewy malt/bread taste which is rapidly transformed into a very nice bitter hops taste. From there the mouthfeel is above average and the aftertaste is delightful and stays with you. This is certainly not a beer for you if you aren’t a fan of hops. I however am a fan of hops, and so I am a fan of this brew as well.
