Cartoonkhaki (1149), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Feb 11, 2003 Had a good chance today and was able to visit the brewery. Wonderful sharp and crisp. Bitter and slightly flowery but refreshingly smooth. Very good quality. I don't find anything overpowering with it. Aroma isn't strong with just a wiff of malt and earth. It's very clean. It's worth the drive to Nobleton. And it's even better fresh on tap! KingofCastle (202), London, Ontario, Canada Apr 29, 2009 bottle. Thanks to Lord Beamish for this one again. Not as mind blowing as their dark lager (how many beers are?) but another quality beer in completely different style. The brewmaster is a genius. This is Steamwhistle’s long lost twin or silent cousin, as the taste similarties between these 2 beers is uncanny. Same grass/hay taste and bitter, tangy finish. The care and quality ingredients going into this are evident. Support this microbrewery as they put out quality stuff! LordBeamish (144), Boozetown, Ontario, Canada Jun 30, 2009 Excellent....simply excellent! The grassy notes of Steam Whistle with perhaps a smoother finish. Dare I say this may even go down smoother than a Steamer? An excellent and refreshing Pil! JesseM (661), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jun 29, 2007 Updated: Jun 20, 2008I was pretty excited about this one, and it didn’t let me down. Aroma is just the typical floral hops, that’s pretty much it. Pours a gold colour with a very small head (that will eventually leave nice lacing on the glass), it looks heavily carbonated. The taste right away is hoppy, definitely some good saaz hops, but maybe some other kinds as well. Then the finish is bitter with a sweet aftertaste of malts. Unlike other bohemians I’ve had, this one seemed to divide up the tastes, instead of having a blend the whole way through (both approaches worked for though). EDIT: Fresh batch for the year, and MAN this stuff is good. Better than I remember. Perfect floral hops and perfectly balanced sweetness/bitterness. The malts are more bready than I remember, and delicious! Nubes (4), Toronto, Ontario, Canada does not count Jul 15, 2003 Refreshing hop aroma with nice malt balance. Great for quaffing on a summers day. JustinBathurst (134), Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada Jun 16, 2004 Pours a nice, clear golden yellow with a nice head.
Aroma is a swath of cut grass--hops, indeed.
Mouthfeel is crisp and clean with well-balanced carbonation.
Taste is a wallop of bitter that washes back into a nice finish with an aftertaste of bitter that lingers just long enough. It’s nice to have a fresh pilsner. So often the imports are a gamble--will they or won’t they be skunked...? So, a lovely brew that I think I’ll be enjoying as long as I’m in Ontario. alebrewer (121), Mentor, Ohio, USA Jan 20, 2003 Excellent interpretation of the sytle. Could use more flower & malt in aroma, but tastes great with good bitterness and a touch of diacetyl. piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada May 9, 2009 On draft at Volo. Gold in colour with medium carbonation. Well balanced aromas of clean pilsner malts and strong herbal and earthy hops. In the mouth, it’s a simple yet classic one-two punch of clean yet distinct malts and herbal hops. Finishes quite dry with a savory bitterness. A very impressive North American micro brewed interpretation of the style.
