argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Aug 20, 2007 (12oz bottle) 20-minute pour to let all the head eventually diminish enough to fit everything into my pint glass. Rocky beige head atop hazy mahogany body. Aroma is moderately sweet, raisin/prune, caramel, some smoke. Taste is medium sweet, smoke, brown sugar. Fills out with some caramel and raisin as it approaches room temperature. Overly effervescent medium-full body. Rastacouere (5552), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jul 28, 2005 Limited head covers the clear deep brown body. Fairly simple nose proposes mostly bready malts with a brown sugar, earthy and vegetal tweak. Very sweet in mouth, juicy raisins soaked with rummy dates-like alcohol. Light-medium body, moderate carbonation, rather dull. hopdog (5535), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 29, 2007 12oz bottle. Poured with a huge off white head which settled down to a medium mahogany color. Aromas of dark fruits, caramel, light chocolate and lightly nutty. Tastes of chocolate, caramel, roast, and nuts. Fizzy body and over carbonated as the pour would suggest. hopscotch (5441), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jan 10, 2007 Bottle... Very dark, cloudy, ruby ale with a small, creamy, khaki head and lots of small, white floaties. Decent retention. Gobs of caramel and chocolate in the nose with a whisper of coconut. Well-balanced flavor with mellow notes of caramel and chocolate and soft, smoky phenols. Full-bodied and creamy with tingly carbonation. The finish just kind of fades away into nothingness with no trace of the rich, caramel malt left behind. Still, a quality English style brew! Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Nov 5, 2007 Aggravating pour - even being careful, I was left with 7/8s of a glass of sudsy tan head that took too damned long to settle enough to drink some. As more body became visible, I could finally spot the deep brown body, nicely highlighted in red. The aroma is old caramel and some orchard fruit. Nice malty flavor, sweet but not overpowering, with a mild earthy bitterness. Dry finish. The alcohol is only present in the warmth the ale brings. I would probably have rated this higher had it not been such a pain to drink.

JPDIPSO (4865), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Mar 6, 2007 Light brown to umber color. Moderate ecru colored head. Caramel, with just a hint of dark fruit in the nose. Quite simple aromas, but certainly no objections, if any no sign of strength or depth. Pleasantly surprised by the smoothness of this. While light and a touch to "fizzy", it has a real light oily quality that I enjoy. Quite simple flavor with brown sugar and dates. Some woody "qualities" in the linger and finish along with a mild burn. Perhaps an american strong, or double brown ale. Drinkable enough, just not very interesting. Tmoney99 (4661), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Apr 2, 2007 Bottle from Belo Vino, Ann Arbor, MI. Pours clear dark brown with a moderate frothy light brown head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Medium roasted tart fruity malty aroma. Medium body. Medium roasted bitter flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.
muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jul 30, 2005 Sampled draught at the Michigan Brewers Fest. Still motor-oil hue with a tiny ring of head...chocolate-covered raisins dominate the sweet, lightly smoky nose...body not much beyond brown sugar and water, alas, really falls apart, syrupy and bland though at least the alcohol isn’t noticeable...doesn’t really work at all in the end despite some beginning promise.
