Ruddy red/gold/black with a small tan head. The aroma has hints of roasted malts and a tiny hint of grass and dust. The aroma seemed more characterful then the actual flavour though. The flavour hits you quite mildly only to leave you a bit mildly disappointed after having enjoyed the aroma. The malts were slightly roasted in the flavour and the bitterness was small the palate was slightly watery.

Draught. At the brewpub. Deep clear ruby-black with a small tan head. Nice mild roast/fruity malt combination, dry and lightly bitter - still that extract character, but it’s not obnoxious. The taste was incredibly mild, not much taste at all, really - vague, sort of burnt roastiness, kind of bitter - nothing to really hook into, really. Watery and still on the tongue with a very quick finish, but no aftertaste, just a whisper of extract tang - drinkable.

Draught at the brewpub. Pours a very deep ruby with a small diminishing tan head. Very mild aroma of sweet malt, caramel and fruit. Watery flavour is sweet with some light toastiness, caramel and no hops to speak of. Light bodied. Bah, average at best.

GregClow (2667) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 12, 2008
Draught at the brewpub. Ruby-brown with a wispy off-white head. Mild malt aroma, with some fruit and toffee notes. Thin body, and limp flavour, with mild sweet malt and not much else. Disappointing.

DerWeg (1272) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 18, 2007
Half pint at the KBC. This is a bit tart and fruity for a dunkel lager, with none of the characteristic lager ’bite’ or nutty malts. Very strange brew. It’s like a home-brew ESB or something. Not terrible and not memorable.

On tap, at the brewpub. Very dark brown, small white head. Sticky sweet malt aroma, some cola. Thin body. Nice sweet dark malt taste, a little bit of molasses, hints of sugar. Some bitterness in finish. Even what I am beginning to identify as this brewpub’s yeast - there is a bit of a common element to some of the beers (in a good way). Refreshing and on style, I enjoyed this straightforward brew - a perfect stop on the way from Toronto to Montreal!

CapFlu (3798) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 19, 2004
(Cask Conditioned) Pours a thin, creamy beige head and a deep mahogany body. Nose of bubblegum and sweet malt. Tart flavour - somewhat astringent. Average.
