Draught at the brewpub. Clear copper colour. Small stable creamy white head. The flavour is quite earthy. Low carbonation. Probably a cream ale. Citric finish.

CASK- Was a hazy copper color with a decent head that fades slowly with some lacing. Smells of grain with a hint of sweetness and fruit mixed in. Has a mild fruity taste and is a bit refreshing. Quite smooth & silky with a bit more carbonation than I expected from a cask ale. Nice balance for and old recipe. Good for a couple. A bit sweeter than I would normally drink. This Ale is only brewed once a year for a local celebration from a 1841 recipe. Had this back in 2008 and do not remember this being quite as sweet.

Cask, at the brewpub. Clear golden amber topped by a frothy almond ring. Soft fruit and butterscotch aroma, greater intensity than the Dragon’s Breath Real Ale which also is on cask right now. Butterscotchy sweet malt, some yeasty fruit, and a low tea-like bitterness in the finish. Velvety, silky mouthfeel. This certainly comes across as a bitter or ESB, but my understanding is that it gets the "Old Ale" designation because the recipe dates back to the 1800’s.

Bu sur place (10 oz), en cask. Couleur ambrée simple, bon collet. Arome d’houblon floral, peu amère et peu intéressant. Goût d’houblon assé amère et sûr.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 tupalev (2730) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 10, 2006
Pint on cask at the brewpub. Dark hazy brown, creamy white head - looked nice. Earthy malt and lots of bread in aroma. Decent taste - lighter hops than regular cask, and lighter malt too. Nice lingering hops, lots of bread dough in middle. Overall, a very pleasing and simple session ale.
2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 DerWeg (1272) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 19, 2006
Cask (nitro?) and almost flat! Deep goldy colour, decent malty feel and hopping but the flatness diminished what could be an appealing beer. Half pint at brewpub.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DougShoemaker (3149) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 5, 2005
Cask.
Aroma is fruity malt, hazy copper, tiny custard head. Tobacco, and rich malt flavours. Nicely balanced, creamy smooth, and dare I say it, ... estery.
Very nice session ale.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 jbrus (4990) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - AUG 10, 2005
Cask conditioned at the brewpub. Aroma is dusty licorice. Brown color, beige almost creamy head, good lace. Light sweet, licorice, some sourness, pretty bitter towards the end, some fruits, light creamy. Overall quite neutral and an annoying sourness that’s not strong but too much present.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 jerc (5591) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 13, 2005
RBSG 2005 voyage home. Amber body, with a moderate off white head, excellent lacing. Vinuous fruit in the aroma is overtaken by disproportionate alcohol notes. Very light fruit and malt, moderate hops. Touch thin and watery at times but quite quaffable.
