Tap at Den gode nabo, Trondheim. Murky orange with a creamy, two finger thick, light brown head. Malty and floral aroma. Heavy bitter, light sweet and a hint of acidity. Medium body. Flatish with a watery palate which dries up at the finish. A smooth and pleasant drink.

On tap at Håndverkerstuene. Hazy orange colour with a small white head. A lot less hoppy than it’s west coast brother Vestkyst, but hops is noticable. Also notes of grass and citrus. Flavour is more malty than hoppy. Some toffee and caramel as well. Medium long aftertaste.

Big offwhite shiny creamy lasting head. Hazy opaque reddish amber body. Earthy resiny citric aroma with dusty grainy notes. Dry-sweet grainy fruity citric taste. Initially doesn’t taste very much, before it all comes with a rush at the end. Sharpish mouthfeel. Mid-bodied. Dry-sweet strong roasty earthy dusty aftertaste with citric resiny fresh wood and tropical fruit notes. Buttery roasty grainy flavour lingers. Lovely! Extremely drinkable, yet has lots of flavour, and great complexity. (0.3l draft at Håndverkerstuene, Oslo.)

Kestral (494) - Årnes, NORWAY - JUN 7, 2011
Dark, hazy orange with a big, dense creamy beige head which holds on to the glass like I tried to hold on to my sobriety, only I failed and the suds didn’t. Aroma is very sweet, very fruity. A bit along the lines of sweet US dIPAs like the Maharaja and the like. Berry liqueur without the alcohol sting. Mainly just fruity sweetness to be found. The flavour carries on the notes from the aroma. Surprisingly, it’s not a sugarloaded hop liqueur fest like the aroma hinted at. It’s not completely unbalanced. There is a solid bitter finish here, and surprisingly a bit of roasted malts that almost make it coffee-like. Medium bodied, it really could have used some more carbonation. There is some, but not much. This was a bit of a wierd one. I wondered how strong it was. Felt a bit heavy, and like a hybrid brew because of the roastiness of the malts. Not quite a black IPA in that sense, but leaning towards the malt profile, only with tons more sweetness. Surprised to see that it’s only at 6,5%. Oh well. Not bad, but not great either.

Smaskifa (76) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 28, 2011
Tap @ Håndverkerstuene, Oslo. Quite interesting looking beer, reminds of a dirty murky yellow/brownish mix you get when you clean your water colour brush in a glass over water, but kinda tempting appearance. Also: big white aroma protecting head. Aroma is dominated by the hops, sweet, roasted malts, coffee, caramel. The taste is much like the aroma, it has definitely a feeling of roasted malts, hints of coffee in there, the tale is quite bitter and dry and stays in your mouth the next day. Good palate, nice level of carbonation.

Quick-review: Unclear, golden orange colour. Grassy nose, some lemon zest. Rich mouthfeel, wellbalanced hop bitternes/aroma with malt. Really easy to like!

Cask at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours hazy dark orange with a small creamy off-white head. Aroma of resiny and citrussy hops with a whiff of nutty malts. Rich malty nutty taste initially before a bitter resiny hops finishes it off.Good beer from Florø.

Cask @ Cardinal. Cloudy dark orange body with a small off-white head. Moderate fruity aroma with malt. Flavor is sweet and malty with moderate citric fruitiness and some grass. Quite smooth but way to sweet and could have some more bitter edge in the aftertaste. Not bad, just a bit straightforward.
