Cloudy brown with off-white head. Aroma of prunes, dates, sherry and port. Well balanced taste. Complex, while easily drinkable. Like a very good English barley wine. Mmmmmmmm :-)

Bottle at Børskjelleren, Bergen, shared with Maltmisjonen. Pours a light mahogany brown body, small off-white head. Nose is caramel, hazel nuts, toffee, raisins, hints of dark dry fruits and grains. Taste is dense caramel, toffee, grains, raisins, hints of hazelnuts and biscuits. Full body, medium carbonation. Classic English barley wine from Kinn, and a nice addition to the Norwegian sortiment of beers. Love it! :-)

On tap @ Bergen Ølfestival. Glowing cloudy deep dark orange in the glass this one with a initially really big dark beige looking head. It’s loaded with all sorts of complex malt aromas and sweet good dried fruits. So much going on on the nose. It has raisins, dates, Kinn yeast and it just smells really good! A ton of malty flavor in this. Sweet and really sticky in the mouth and it’s gently carbonated. I get nuts, spices, lots of raisins, some rum and dark sweet fruits. This goes under the category "A flavor bomb". Just lovely stuff. Looking forward to having this on bottle. 07.09.2013

Brown color with medium head. Aroma of malt, dark caramel, dried fruits. Taste of dark dried fruits, caramel, sweet malt. Finishes off with a woody mouthfeel and hidden alcohol. A nice byggvin this.

Sampled at Nærbø Ølfestival 2013. Slightly unclear, deep golden body with a small beige head. Nice, strong aroma of dry fruit, caramel malt, spicy cellar notes (whatever that might be, it just sounds right for me) and port type vinous. Flavor is quite sweet, caramel malt, dry fruit, warming alcohol and something best described as Belgium style bitterness, ie not particular citric fruity, more like bitter dry fruit and herbal bitterness. Fine body and long warming aftertaste. A fine and pleasant one that probably always should be stored for at least one year just like this one.

Dunkel rødbrun farve med lyst skum. Lukt av malt og frukt. Smak av malt, frukt og krydder. Smaksbombe. Bøker og Børst.

Bottle. Dark brown, almost no head. Great chocolate aroma, promising fruit and marzipane as well. Wonderful chocolatey fruit flavours, sweet, warming alcohol. Marzipane. Seriously good beer, maybe a candidate for aging?

Bottle from vinmonopolet vika, enjoyed with my father in law. Brown-red color with no head and completly flat. Smells malty and boozy. Tastes of caramel, malty, liqorice, fruits, bitter and complex. Nice sipper.

UPDATED: OCT 13, 2013 Rerate, labelled 750 ml bottle, batch #400, as Kinn Ivar Aasen-øl Bygg-vin. ABV is 10.5%. Available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Murky brown colour (the bottle had been stored on the side in my fridge), moderate but lasting cream-coloured head. Aroma and flavour basically as upon first sample, but the oaky notes are even more pronounced now. Original rating: 750 ml unlabelled bottle (the crate was labelled), at Mandag i Annen, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. The pub got the beer directly from the brewery, but so far not in a quantity sufficient for normal sale. Hazy dark reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Aroma and flavour of malts, caramel and dark dried fruits (incl. raisins), hints of oak, mild spices and fortified wine.
