Bottled at PBF, thanks KnutAlbert! Near black, minimal head. Rich aroma of pear and licorice. Sweet with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Sticky honey, licorice and coffee. Warming finish with marked coffee bitterness. Interesting flavouirs, but on the sticky side.

Opaque dark brown beer with a small pale tan head. Palate starts smooth but turns minerally crisp. Smooth dark malts. Nice dark chocolate. Whisper of cream. Finishes light and dry. Pretty light and tasty!

On tap at Nærbø Ølfestival. Looking gorgeous this one, with it’s big, dense, light tan head soon diminishing into a finger-thick layer of cream leaving lacings. Black body. Licorice, roasted malts, some burnt notes and coffee, as well as a pleasant touch of dried fruits and alcohol in the aroma. The flavor is nicely sweet, with coffee, licorice and some burnt notes. Dried fruits and a touch of alcohol too. Full-bodied and supersmooth, definitely deserving a 5 on the palate score. Lots of roasted style bitterness and some hoppy bitterness in the end. A bit warming in the end maybe, but certainly a beauty. 111022

Quite black. The aroma is rich, with lots of chocolate, rich earthy, slightly hoppy nose. Inky, soft, fruity, intense dark chocolate, lots of acidity (dark orchard fruit). Good strong porter.

Bottle at Amundsen. Black, no head. Aroma of dark rich cocoa powder. Taste is bitter 90% cacao. Extremely dry finish. Fascinating and unique.

Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell during the Gunnar Tasting. Vintage 2011. Big thanks to Gunnar himself for this one! Pours clear, dark brown with a creamy, beige head. The nose is all torched earth, leather fruits, tar and baking cocoa. Light to medium sweet flavor with burnt wood, bittersweet chocolate and prominent earthy bitterness. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with lots of dirt, char and bitter cocoa. Decent.

250mL thanks to my Norwegian Secret Santa. Pours deep brown to black in the snifter tulip. Medium, dense tan foam. Thick formation and retention. Nose is sweet prunes, dirty earth, wet swamp, soy. Can’t really get into this aroma. Taste is richer dairy, milk chocolate, heavy mousse and whipping cream. Ooo very yummy. Chocolate silk pie. Excellent hoppy balance. As it warms, off flavors in the nose subside to reveal pue crust, dark chocolate mousse, brown liquor. Wow this baby opens up. Switched glassware from skinny snifter tulip to oversized Southampton RIS snifter. Wow this is smelling great- super rich ganache, dark chocolate mousse, muted bourbon and coconut. Wow. Still smelling sweet with rum baba dessert. A very temperamental beer but the palate is dense and filling. Huge dairy cream character. Taste as it warms becomes richer and richer melted dark chocolate. So bitter and rich. This was an experience!
