COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a premium Imperial beer, like that exported from Britain to Russia and Scandinavia at the end of the 18th century. It is a smooth black beer that uses chocolate malt to gain a deep bitter chocolate flavor. It is high in alcohol and fragrant, and very smooth as a result of long lagering.

Deep dark brown/black with a thin tan hat. Creamy dark chocolates nose with traces of toffee, chalky figs, and the slightest touch of cinnamon. Firm mouthfeel with dry coco, bitter bakers chocolate, figs, molasses, and hints of coffee bean. Finishes earthy and herbal with black and roasted malts prevailing. Fairly understated for the style. Bad? No. Different? Yes.

Tap at Craft Beer Market Awajicho. Dark brown colour, small golden head. Aroma is interesting, bit funky, touch of smoke, liquorice, aniseed, leather. Taste is nice. Wouldn’t immediately say chocolate, quite bitter, liquorice again, fruity punch. Quite a mix, with chocolate very low in the mix.

609 yen for 10oz  at Bungalow. Nice dark black pour with reddish tints around the edges of the glass & a thick creamy tan head-a great looking beer. The aroma is chocolate with toffee notes. Wow, quite a rich beer. Thick, viscous oily mouthfeel with a strong toffee, figs, plum & chocolate taste. This is the nicest beer I have had from Kinshachi. Really good stuff. I may be overrating this as it was far beyond my expectations... I need to drink it again side by side with a different top stout to judge it accurately...

Draught. Inky black, fine tan head. Nice notes of roasted malt and dark chocolate, touch of spice. Syrupy mouthfeel, with nice notes of brown sugar and dark fruit. Pretty nice stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Asahiya. Yeast and crude raw chocolate nose. "Pitch" brown, two-finger frothy brown head. Thick cocoa, some alcohol warmth, metallic notes, and some wine-like touches. Medium body. Really tastes like and extract base. Could use a bit more body.

Bottle. Pours a dark, near-black brown with big fluffy light brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate and mild coffee. Flavor is chocolate with a little bit of hops. Nicely balanced, but perhaps a tiny bit too bitter for my tastes. Solid chocolate stout.

Black with a deep beige head. Chocolate, molasses, roasted malts, dark fruits in the aroma. Full, thick, syrupy body. Light roasted malts, chocolate, some light berries, light smoke. Pretty solid, actually, but it’s not amazing. Still, I wouldn’t mind having it again.

Black colored with little beige head. Dark chocolate aroma in aroma, roastiness and mildly bitter hops also here. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is more hopped with mild chocolate, roastiness and licorice here too. Aftertaste dries, alcohol covered almost totally. I like this, mix of chocolate and hops.

Bottled, thanks TimE! Realy black with rich off-white head. There’s tart soy sauce and a bit of chocolate. Spritzy with above medium body. Licorice and soy lingers. Feels a bit bold and disharmonious.

On tap at Beer Circus, Nagoya. Black with a lacing, creamy, light brown head. Good roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Chocolate, a touch of vanilla, some tartness and good roasted flavours. Rich and full-bodied. A very complex chocolate stout.

Had this one on tap and from the bottle a few times. Decent stout here with a strong nose of roasted chocolates and some whiskey notes. The taste is a bit one dimensional and didn’t take me places I really needed to go. Sensed a tiny bit of sourness in the flavours of this ale also. Kind of an interesting stout here, but not quite successful.
