3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
roasty, grass, earthy, golden, clear, frothy, lightly bitter, light body, astringent, bitter. Deliciously skunky aroma. Tastes quite lighter than expected; with a bit more body this would be quite a contender. Still an amazing beer to crack open and take a whiff of.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle from 7-11. A pleasant surprise. Aroma hops and citrus nose. Smooth enough body drank nicely straight from the broad-necked stubby. Balanced and refreshing. Crisp hops carry some strong (for Kirin) flavours of orange peel, light caramel. Mental note to have as a standby conbini beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Picked up a bottle n Kyoto, Japan. Aroma of raisin, odd funk, stale chocolate and dates. Amber color with thin foam. Unique (almost) fish overtones. Evident notes of raisin, old dates, odd funk, metallic grapefruit and funky caramel. Overall, this is super weird, slightly unbalanced but I strangely enjoy it a little. B- rating.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is grassy and dopey. Smells like a brewery.
Light body, strange bitter sweet aftertaste.
A pretty good beer from Kirin. Better than there, íThe Hopsí release.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Golden color. Big hoppy aroma, very clean, piney lemony nose. The mouth is a touch astringent, a touch sweet, but great bitterness, decent actually though wish it was drier. Still for a macro, it has balls and enjoyable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
Limited edition of Kirinís 7/11-only Grand Kirin line. I wish this series was available everywhere, itís quite good for a macro and possible better than Suntoryís Premium Maltís (god I hate that dumb apostrophe).
Back to The Aroma. Pours a not very nice yellow/greenish/gold with a quality head. Aroma is hoppy and malty and quite nice. A little thin on the mouthfeel, but the hops are pretty well done and probably the strongest Iíve had in a beer in Japan. Hop flavors are floral and citrusy, not much pine or Saaz-style. Thereís a nice, solid backbone of malt to back up the hops. If the mouthfeel was a bit thicker and carbonation a bit smoother, this beer would be a winner.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
After Asahiís Stout, another in the more bang for your buck series, Grand Kirinís The Aroma. 5.5% bottle from 7/11 roughly 285 yen or so. Clear fizzy gold with a foamy white head, a definite citrusy hop aroma is evident, in a snifter I got a touch of lemongrass, a lager glass had a subdued aroma & a tulip a touch of lemon & biscuit. Medium bodied zesty carbonation, dry sweet finish, slightly fruity with a solid biscuit/graham body. Way more flavorful than your average Kirin. Well worth checking out.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from local 7-11. Deep raw greeny fresh hop aroma, a bit sulfur-like, penetrating and pleasant. Clear medium straw color, half-finger white head. Initial flavors are hop dominated / some tangy hits and then sweet malt emerges / light coating of bitterness, and then tiny sweet notes in final. Thin to medium body. Initial aroma hit is substantial, but the nose soon grows accustomed to it. Interesting use of Bravo hops (if that is, in fact, what was used), a high-alpha acid bittering hop, whose main contribution here is in the aroma. Really smells like fresh hops. Very pleasant stuff, a notch above the regular Grand Kirin. Never had quite so hop-dominated a brew like this from any Japanese major brewery.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from 7-11. Lovely hop aroma, citrus, grass, oregano. Bravo, I read. Shockingly nice for a Kirin! Pale gold with a fine, low head. Fruity, lemon flavor, somewhat sweet, nice bitter finish. I like this. Quite ale-like, for sure. Great stuff which I will drink daily at this price until itís gone. No major beer in Japan has every been hopped like this. Finish is a bit strange, but still good stuff.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Certainly a bigger hop presence on the nose than the regular Grand Kirin. Mouthfeel is a bit smoother, carbonation is not as sharp. Very apparent hops in the finish. Iím quite happy with this for a convenience store major brand pale lager. Hoppier than the regular Grand Kirin, but at the expense of some of the crispness that a pale lager needs.
