2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
This Kirin Stout pours a thin black and is topped by a persistent cappuccino colored hear. Decent amount of lacing.
The smell is very minimal. Whisps of coffee and chocolate with a metallic edge.
The taste is light and bitter with a slight metallic finish. Hints of coffee.
The mouthfeel is very light with a small amount of carbonation.
Overall, this beer is ok but nothing special.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
One finger head, dark chocolate color with brown red tints in the light...fruit forward and sweet with light bitterness. Nice balance, not so complex, but something I would definitely session. Well done for a macro.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Backlog, canned in 2008. Very light beer, light bodied, more like a Schwarz than a stout. Seems bottom fermented to me as well. Not a bad beer though.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: SEP 24, 2013 I get chocolate, dark berries and a slightly burnt toast aroma on the nose Taste is dark malts with nut , toast, coffee and a cardboard grassy taste similar to the original Ichiban Shibori. The lacing is moderate (about half an inch) and fades after five minutes. Dry and bitter aftertaste. Solid effort from Kirin in the stoute/lager stakes.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Great looking stout, nice and black, with an incredibly creamy head. Aroma of chocolate and ashes. Very sweet flavour of chocolates, and also a nice yougurt sourness, always with those ashes. Earthy and woody, with a very subtle touch of berries, it has a delicious velvety feel, medium bodied. In my opinion, an intermediate between a dry and a sweet milk stout. After the Hitachino Nest Lacto, this is the best east/north Asia stout I have had so far. Kampai.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Mild cocoa powder. Wwatery chocolate soda, light spicy hops, bitter finish. Not a very impressive stout, more of a dark bitter soda.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Black medium body, small tan head. Malty aroma with some coffee. Taste is bitter but quite mild, some roastiness. Slick mouthfeel, very little carbonation. Itís pretty simple and kind of weak but that was expected. Not bad.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Can from deli at Osaka Station. Pours dark tan with short lived light tan lacing. Slight malty aroma. Caramel sweet malt taste with hint of vanilla and chocolate. Light bodied. Bittersweet finish. Inoffensive and easy to knock back. Ok.

2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
350 ml can bought at 7-Eleven right next to the newly-opened YATA in Tsuen Wan.
Clear deep blackish brown colour; One-quarter finger head and beige foam which fades in 30 seconds; Small sticky lacing and notable carbonation; Sweet aroma of roasted malt, light coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, cream and light nuts; Light sweet taste of roast malt, with strong smoke, black coffee, burnt toffee, dark chocolate, nuts, hint of metallic, slight wet cardboard, light citrus and grass; Light body, watery palate; Taste profile is strongly smoky and nutty, burnt toast-like toffee and dark chocolate characters in a watery macro background; Hoppiness is near zero nose, slight citrus / grass taste and low but present bitterness.
Smokiness all the way as finish. Slightly dry after taste, quite easy to mouth.
Comments: This one has the right look and quite decent nose, but itís way too watery and smoky, more like a Schwarzbier than a proper stout. With so many good stouts available in HK, this one is no drain pours but does not deserve a second chance.
