The time I got into some Kirin, it was actually imported from Japan - not brewed under contract elsewhere. It is called an ’American standard’ beer - I wish, based on the ones I had!! This was a delicious, beautifully balanced beer with only one flaw: The color. It was a screeching sunshine yellow - I swear it was artificially colored, but it didn’t affect the taste a whit. I end as I began, though - I have not tasted the ’Made in Canada’ version. RE-RATE: I have now - nothing like the import I had some years ago. Not offensive, but bland, bland, bland compared to the original. The reviewers who state that it’s ’better in Japan’ are almost certainly right, I betcha.

Bottled. Pours very pale yellow color, like well hydrated urine. Aroma is sweet apple, sort of like a wet cardboard Aroma. Very sweet. Flavor is much better than the aroma. Light crisp flavor bit of caramel malt sweetness. Slight slight slight hop undertones.

Drank from a bottle. A very typical macro lager. The only clear component in the taste is a slight bitterness.

Can from Lawson, Ibaraki, Japan. A golden coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Vague grassy, fruity aroma. Tastes similar, grassy, fruity, metallic. Forgettable Jp lager.

Perfectly drinkable but boring. Rather weak on the aroma and palate, and especially the coloring.

Can from Family Mart. Sweet on the palate with a slight graininess present. Corn, rice and grains are noticeable tastes. Typically bland pale Japanese lager but better than Asahi and Ebisu for sure.

Rated as Kirin Lager Beer, 5% Watery-grainy body. Harsh bitter, grainy strange, not pleasant.

It tastes very artificial or should I say “engineered”. It’s tastier than Asahi. It has good body and big froth. The beer must be really cold to enjoy this beer, which at the same time cover up unpleasant bitterness(what kind of hop do they use ?).

Drink it near frozen on a hot Japanese summer’s day and it’ll work wonders. But so would most lagers. I do like the label, though.
