COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
100% Barley beer. (They play with the difference between all malt 麦芽, and all barely 麦. This is all barley, meaning they use unmalted barley and then spike it with barley spirits...)

Nice easy drinking lager style beer. Aroma is a mix of slight cardboard and sweetness. Flavour is a mix of slight apricot and citrus with a mild bitter finish. The Kirin web site looks like it is a Happoshu, if it is, then they have come a long way over the past 8 years.

500 ml can bought at 7-Eeleven in Metropolis Plaza, Sheung Shui.

Piss pale golden yellow colour; Half finger head and soapy white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Minimal lacing and fizzy carbonation; Pungent smell of malt, with very light inoffensive skunk (fades in 1 minute), corn, sugar, faint lemon and faint grass; Light sweet taste of thin malt, with soda water, notes of wet cardboard, mineral water, light lemon and hint of grass; Light body, watery palate; Taste profile a very thin malt base with a muted, water-like, but pretty odd chemical background. No much taste othererwise, just faint notes of wet cardboards; Hoppiness is very light lemon and initially skunky then muted grass nose, very light lemon and grass taste and barely detectable bitterness for a muted finish. Wet after taste, easy to mouth.

Comments: This is decent by happoshu standard, and is as close to a pale lager proper as you can get, but it’s very watery in body and taste. Way better than many crappy happoshus but also hollow and boring. 100% barley beer? Of course it’s a lie.

Wet straw smell. Boring taste of a light cereal soda, followed by some sour hops. Fairly disappointing attempt to an original happoshu.

Wow. This was pretty nasty. Soggy cardboard, sour veggies on the nose. Dishwatery palate, forgettable flavour. I know it's only a touch over 100 yen per can, but come on people, there are much more palatable frankenbeers than this. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can from Altek, Okinawa. Poured light yellow with a medium sized effervescent white head. Streaming bubbles. Mild hop aroma. Taste is not unlike any other pale lager. Avoid.

Can from convenience store. Bad-ass cardboard and sewer pipe nose. Very pale straw. Thin papery initial, with some overripe lemons emerging soon after. Finish is fairly small. Thin body. The bad aroma doesn’t really influence the flavors so much. But still.... pretty bad stuff.
