COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Coppery brown with rich, malty character-this perfectly brewed amber ale gets its good looks from the dark-roasted crystal malt that we import from England. To give it some Western flair, it is moderately hopped with hops straight from the Yakima Valley in Washington. ABV 5.7% Bitterness 25 IBU. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

Bottle: amber with medium off-white head and nose bisquit, malt and floral hops. Flavor is malt with light roasted grain, bisquit, and light citrus hoppiness. Palate is full creamy malt, mildly sweet with a punch of hop bitterness at the end. Overall, I liked it but a little too much hops and bitter for my amber tastes.

355ml bottle pours amber in color with a finger of white head that leaves a few spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is caramel and grass. Taste is a caramel malty sweetness with some grassy hop bitterness. The best of the Kirkland series that I have tried, but not by much. Nothing special and not recommended.

Got this in a giant costco multipack. Pours looking like watered down coke, minimal head. Smells of butter, caramel and a bit of metal. Tastes of caramel, malt and a touch of hops. Was a little bit sweeter than I was expecting but in a good way. All in all not bad considering the price. Better than some other mass produced beers that are more expensive.

Bottle from the local Costco. Pours a clear darker amber color with a moderate off-white head on there. Nose is malt-dominant, with some toasty caramel in there. Taste is toasty and slightly bitter, which surprised me, and almost no residual sweetness.

From a 12 oz bottle. Pours a clear amber with an off white head. Malty nose. Nutty flavor. Clean finish.

Bottle from Costco! Dark copper color with a decent off-white head. Nice roast caramel aroma. Medium body with lightly frothy carbonation. Flavor is caramel with mild spiciness. Mildly bitter. Those Yakima hops are working overtime to help out this sucker. Worth drinking.

2009 Bottle - Pours a clear and watery brown with a small off white head...aroma is a bit sweet and nutty, a bit lager skunk...flavour is similar dry roasty malt, little grain and finishes thin and dry...not very reminiscent of any amber I’ve had before, but not horrible...I wouldn’t buy it looking for an amber, but maybe as summer swill...

Tallahassee, Fl - Costco - 12 oz bottle - part of a 24 bottle variety pak for $18.99 - not a bad deal. Light copper pour with a slight bubbly white head. Aroma has some nutty accents, a hint of coffee and some citrus. Flavor has some decent subtle bitterness, some nuttiness, and a hint of citrus. Mouthfeel is clean and smooth. Not bad for the price and my fridge is full of beer for a few weeks!

Bottle, from mixed pack. Pours dark cedar brown, with a small head. Very clear and filtered, a bit unsettling. Aroma is softly malty, nutty, some toasts. Flavor is predictably mild, disappointingly so. What is there – if given time to properly warm – will greet you with buttery malt, toasty chocolate, and some minerally elements. Clean finish. Decent, but watery.

Part of the pack of beers in the fridge. Smells better than the Russian River Salvation I just had. (Blaspheme the thought) Pours copper with a thin head. Not much to look at. Aroma is sweet with malt and fresh wood chips and raspberries. Taste is muted sweet with a slight spice note and crisp mouthfeel. Fairly thin, but drinkable in large quantities.
