An authentic German style lager brewed with pilsner, dark-roasted Munich, and dark caramel malts. The result is a deep, golden-colored beer with smooth body. The best ingredients create the best beer. We use a bottom-fermenting yeast strain from the Weihenstephan yeast bank from Freising, Germany, and aroma hops from the renowned Hallertau region in Southern Germany. ABV 5.5% Bitterness 22 IBU. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

Pours with a mild/moderate sized head. Has a VERY mild aroma. Just a touch of grain and corn. Looks a touch darker than a typical lager. A bit of hops and a soft aftertaste. This is an exceptionally light grainy beer with a bit of hoppiness. This is the second from the Kirkland four pack that Iíve tried and itís about what I expected. Not much for complexity here, I mean itís certainly no micro-brew, but pretty good for the price bracket that itís in and Iíll probably buy the 4 pack again.

Not much going on here. Slightly bitter taste. Crystal clear appearance. Flavor was muddled.

Bottle. Bright bronze body, tight white head. Grainy aroma, very plain. Sweet grainy palate with a whiff of bittering hop presence at the back, but really dull. Not something that makes me think of Germany at all.

Bottle; poured a copper gold. Aroma of caramel, bread and grass. Flavor was crisp and bitter/earthy for the style. Not all that complex as expected, but ok.

Bottle; poured an amber orange color with a big off white head. Aroma of caramel and bread. Light aroma. Flavor was about what was expected. Not all that bad for the style, but just boring. Some sweetness, caramel, bread and touch of earth/grass. Palate was nice. Ok

The dark malts come through with a toffee flavoring and aroma. The beer is slightly hazy with a thin off-white lacing. The carbonation is limited, with small, sharp bubbles. Itís an OK beer, but Iím not a big fan of this style, so perhaps there is some negative bias.

Slight sulphur floral light sweet malt aroma. Clear deep amber colour, poor head and hardly any lacing. Sweetish malt and floral flavour. Light malt and cider finish with a light tangy bitter herbal aftertaste.

Bottle - Overall a dissapointing beer that is only barely better than the huge macroís. Not really worth the work to describe in that I would avoid.
