An authentic German style lager brewed with pilsner, dark-roasted Munich, and dark caramel malts. The result is a deep, golden-colored beer with smooth body. The best ingredients create the best beer. We use a bottom-fermenting yeast strain from the Weihenstephan yeast bank from Freising, Germany, and aroma hops from the renowned Hallertau region in Southern Germany. ABV 5.5% Bitterness 22 IBU. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

12 oz bottle. Pours a golden amber color with a small white head. It has a fresh malty aroma. It has a nice caramel and toast taste to it with light hop bitterness. This is a refreshing and easy to drink beer.

nothing too out of the ordinary here. while its nothing special there is a slight amount of German style malts and hefe flavor. a little too over hoppy for a true Vienna style., drinkable though.

Pours a rather typical clear golden amber with a white head. Aroma is malty with a good hint of fruit and even a touch of hops. Flavor is typically malty but has some fruity and malty touches, drawing it above average. Texture is fairly smooth and fizzy, making a nice tingle. Costco’s offerings are definitely worth of at least a try!

Bottle. Pours clear copper with minimal head. Aroma of grassy hops and sweet malt. Not a lot of flavor and very watery, but there’s nothing insulting about this. A refreshing drink for a hot day.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2010 The aroma is weak but inoffensive with caramel malt and hops. The hops are citrusy. The appearance is amber with a medium clumpy head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is smooth and fits the style. Overall a decent beer.

This is an attractive beer. It’s a dark gold, almost amber with a good head that lasts. There’s a definite honeyed note in the malt. It’s a nicely malty lager, but there’s a bit of an unfortunate sulfur note in the flavor.

Sparkling clear amber, thin white ring of a head. Aroma is sweet and grainy. Flavor is grainy, mildly hoppy. Oddly, alcohol is noticeable. Watery body. Not too exciting, not too terrible.

Wow, they worked really hard on this label, huh? Seems like they could have at least gone the Trader Joe’s route and made up their own brand. Nope, this one’s proud to be generic. I didn’t pour it out of the bottle, so who knows what it looks like? Odd that the other ratings range from "clear gold" to "orange" to "deep amber," so again... huh. Tastes just fine, with a little more flavor than your average decent lager. A bit more grain and malt. Good enough for a hot day.

Why not. Amberish with a nice off white head. Aroma is lightly malty, yeast, bread, toasty. Taste is fairly malty, some toastiness to it, yeast, faint hoppiness.
