COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An authentic German style lager brewed with pilsner, dark-roasted Munich, and dark caramel malts. The result is a deep, golden-colored beer with smooth body. The best ingredients create the best beer. We use a bottom-fermenting yeast strain from the Weihenstephan yeast bank from Freising, Germany, and aroma hops from the renowned Hallertau region in Southern Germany. ABV 5.5% Bitterness 22 IBU. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with an expiration date of Apr 05, 2010. This bottle was brewed in Utica, NY. The pour is an amber-orange color with a quick burst of off-white head that drizzles downward in a matter of moments. The aroma seems fairly thin and unimpressive. I get a bit of malts and a little hops but nothing really stands out. The mouthfeel is creamy and about medium texture. The taste has a malty cleanliness about it and is a bit more enjoyable than the aroma. Not too bad but nothing I would go out of my way to buy again.

Solid brew that comes at an excellent price. It beats the pants off many straight from Germany light lagers and comes in a variety pack, how can you beat that?

Bottle. Pours dark gold with a medium off-white head. Faint doughy aroma with a hint of straw. Soft grassy taste with a light bitter finish. Well carbonated and very light bodied. Refreshing.

12 ounce bottle from 24-beer case sampler from Costco at $18.00/case. Beer brewed in Utica New York by the Saranac-Matt Brewing Co. Good deal!

12 oz. bottle- Pours golden with little head, aroma is malt and not much more. The flavor is similar to an American Amber ( not my favorite style). Lets hope this is the worst of the Kirkland beers.

I actually really like this brew. Pours deep brown with a thin lacey head. Aroma is nothing special but the taste is really rich and full of nice malts. I would definitely get this brew again.

12 oz bottle into lager glass. Aroma of caramel, cheap grain (at first--it seems to disappear quickly). Pours golden with a medium dissipating head; leaves a nice collar of foam and sticky lacing. Taste is a little sour, sweet, and then bitter. And then sour again. I’m no vienna expert, but this tastes an awful lot like an amber ale--one of my least favorite styles. Too malty for me.

Bottle from the costco case box. Smell is like straw and grass, with a little bit of malt and bread smell. Taste sweet and pretty lively as well. No hops noticed really. Smooth, pretty easy to drink, but it makes better pizza dough than it does beer.

Thanks to John for the bottle! Poured crystal-clear reddish-amber with an easily-resuscitated off-white head. The aroma picked up toasted caramel and nutty notes with a hint of honey.. sweet overall with light floral and fresh yeasty accents.. entirely pleasant. The flavor found sweet caramel, nutty notes, and honey again, with fresh yeast and light leafy bitterness around.. a kiss of honey on the crisp, calculated, refreshing finish. Light-bodied with tight carbonation that moved it well across the palate.. crisp and well-balanced. Nothing wrong with this one.
