This classic handcrafted ale, brewed with generous amounts of American hops, including Cascade, Centennial and Amarillo has a complex character and is very hoppy in both flavor and aroma. By using barley malt, Munich malt and crystal malt, this IPA is a delicious medium bodied beer bursting with flavor. A true India Pale Ale. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

Middle of the road IPA. About the best you’ll get from a Costco product. Whatever.

Bottle. WheeA: Amber color with creme colored head. No lacing.N: Nutty, toffee, biscuit, honey, earth, peppercorn. T: Dryly bitter. Light sweetness.M: Medium body with a light carbonation. O: Not awful. Clean - maybe closer to an amber ale, but not something I would be ashamed to serve at a party.

Poured a golden color with a thin head. Aroma is very nice, lots of fresh hops. Pine and herbal notes in the aroma. Taste is a bit dry and with a bit of cardboard. The hops are nice though and the balance is decent. Finish is little on the malty side with herbs. Overall not bad at all, very fresh.

Transfer from BA review on 3-11-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a nice amber copper color with a big cream colored head. The head has a decent level of retention fading over time to leave a good level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The smell is bready and caramel sweet with a nice blend of a grapefruit citrus hop and some lighter notes of a floral smells. Taste – The taste is upfront bready with a light caramel sweetness with a decent amount of grapefruit hop flavors. As the taste advances further there are flavors of a pine hop come to the tongue with a loss of much of the sweeter flavors. The grapefruit hop flavors get stronger as the taste advances to the end where a moderately hoppy, bitter, and dry flavor are left to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is rather average. The thickness suits the hop flavors quite well while the medium carbonation being nice for complementing the more crispness of the brew. Overall – Not too bad, but a little too much of the a bitter grapefruit is left to linger on the tongue at the end of the taste leaving a somewhat unbalanced taste. Not bad and for ~ 75 cents for the bottle this is definitely a good deal.

January 12th, 2013 - Kirkland’s beers don’t have much flair or pizazz, but they’re an affordable way to show up to board game night with a box of liquid joy (and the goodwill of all the party goers.) For the hop heads, there’s Kirkland’s India Pale Ale. It’s nothing special to the eye, nose, or tongue, but it’s got flavors that would pair well with greasy gobs full of pizza and other de-nutrified snacks. The nose has a scent of honeyed pecans, though the occasional sniff is more amber like than hoppy. And the taste? Well, actually there’s not much hops in the flavor either. So, scratch off that appeal to hop heads. The flavor is thin, and a little gruelish, and certainly not hoppy enough for the San Diego IPA drinking crowd.

12 ounce bottle from Costco. Pours a ruby color with a medium white head. A sweet malty fruity nose. The flavor is light fruity hops, metal, nutty, cherries. Odd for an ipa. Not hoppy. An amber ale more so. Ok.

12oz bottle. Pours amber with a white head. Citrus, caramel, light pine, on the sweeter side. It was better than I thought it would be. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tea, cooked vegetables, and cereal grain nose, sawdust also present with perhaps some honey. Clear deep amber, thick head. Mild dried leaves, a little cardboard, stale malt. Not much in the way of hops. Meh.

Bottle from the local Costco. Pours a crystal clear reddish amber color with a moderate off-white head on it. Nose is quite grassy for me, with little else in terms of complexity for this beer. Taste is moderately bitter, but tastes old, like it’s been sitting in a warehouse too long (imagine that?!?). Meh.

Aroma is quite nice...caramel malts, some citrus hops and reisin. Flavour is too malty and sweet for my taste, nowhere near enough hops or bitterness. Again, ok for the price.
