This classic handcrafted ale, brewed with generous amounts of American hops, including Cascade, Centennial and Amarillo has a complex character and is very hoppy in both flavor and aroma. By using barley malt, Munich malt and crystal malt, this IPA is a delicious medium bodied beer bursting with flavor. A true India Pale Ale. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear amber with a foamy ivory head. Aroma of caramel and pine. Taste of caramel, pine, skunk, and wet leather. Not as bad as expected but definitely not great. It was worth a try.

Caramel brown, loose white head. Lots of caramel and pine in the aroma, plus some earthy notes. Clean, floral hops and a earthy, caramel finish. Not great, but nicely serviceable IPA. I would drink this again.

Made for the masses. Party pleaser sampler pack. Pours a rust color with a huge off white head. Citrus aroma and pine and citrus hops within a very watery beer. Nice attempt but no where near a good ipa.

Clear copper color with a thin white head. Aroma is light grapefruit with a bit of malt. Taste is the same, and it’s not very assertively hopped, but still pleasant and drinkable.

Light amber and minimal head. Smells of hops. Tastes of hops and grain. This is not complex but if you ever want to let somebody know what hops tastes like give them this. It’s not unpleasant, just very simple.

Bottle; poured a glowing amber type color with a fairly large light khaki head. Aroma of bread and fruit, fairly straightforward. Flavor had a bit more going for it. Alot of fruitiness, but not much of a hoppy bite. Some earthiness that lingered. Ok.

Clear copper pour, with an off white head. Sweet malt, piney hops, light citrus, and grain. Easy drinking. Not very good of an IPA, but a good mass buy from Costco for a party or something.

Bottle - Overall a dissapointing beer that is only barely better than the huge macro’s. I would have expected some hops and bitterness but what I got was just bad. Not really worth the work to describe in detail, just avoid.

My first of the Costco-beers. A friend had a mixture of these in his fridge the other day. Intrigued, I grabbed this one. A dark orange/copper color with a small off-white head on top. Nice floral aromas with citrus and a dry straw -like scent on the finish. Definitely some hoppy-ness in the nose. Crisp, moderate heft bolster this beer well. Good feel to hold up to the bitterness that’s to come. Flavors of bitter hops, semi-sweet orange slices, dry grains - all meld together to create a simple easy-drinking ale. The hops aren’t the most flavorful here, but they get the job done. I see these beers as being great gateway beers for people newly into craft beer. They’re simple and tasty, and the pricepoint will appeal to the masses as well.
