This classic handcrafted ale, brewed with generous amounts of American hops, including Cascade, Centennial and Amarillo has a complex character and is very hoppy in both flavor and aroma. By using barley malt, Munich malt and crystal malt, this IPA is a delicious medium bodied beer bursting with flavor. A true India Pale Ale. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

Mild citrus and caramel aroma. Still, bright orange color beer. A good dose of sweet malt, bitter without being very hoppy. Flush, easy drinking body makes this a stronger session IPA. For a wholesaler’s brand, this isn’t bad.

Not as bad as the ratings. Great IP at Costco for the money, cheap hoppy, yum!

Bottle 12 oz. Clear mahogany/copper with fair beige head that fell quickly. Smell is of overcooked, buffered down malt with plastic and a touch of weak hops. Flavor is weak, overcooked malt with min hop flavor but a noticeable, mild hop bitterness. Not good but not drain pour either. I bought the 4 style case to drink with sauerkraut and hot dogs. It will suffice.

Clear amber with a pale beige head. Kumquat, grapefruit, pine and caramel aroma - plenty of the latter. Sweet with lots of caramel, but nice citrus flavours and some pine in a moderately bitter finish. A little too sweet and fairly plain but more than acceptable.

Poured a clear amber/copper with a fairly big head. Nice hoppiness and citris aromas. A decent IPA, but a decent brew at a great price.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with a medium off-white head that leaves decent lacing. Aroma is metalic, pine and a bit of citrus. Flavor much the same, a bit of malt give light sweetness and medium metallic bitterness in the finish. Kind of meh...

Bottle. Clear yellow with a fizzy white head. Bready malty aroma and taste with vanilla notes and a lighthoppiness.

12 oz bottle. Best by 1-13-2013. Pours a translucent copper color with a small white head that soon recedes to a film. The aroma is sweet caramel malts. The flavor is bitter hops forward with stale spicy-earthy hops and then the barley malt base takes over with semi-sweet breads and some biscuit. The palate is full and smooth and the carbonation is lively. Finishes short and sweet with lingering caramel. Overall: Freshness is definitely an issue here and the fact that the best-by date is over a year away and this is an IPA is just wrong.

Bottle from CostCo: Aroma was fragrant with some oily hops and semi syrupy malts but overall fell short of what an IPA should smell like. Appearance was almost identical to Kirkland’s pale ale except that it had a darker tint on the liquid and had a soapier layer of foam. Flavor is bland with minimal amounts of real true hops but then again this could come across as an English IPA or bitter.
