COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a classic, American-Style pale ale that displays all of the complex bitterness and aroma from the hops of the Yakima Valley in Washington State. By using a top-fermenting ale yeas strain we bring out the floral and herbal flavor profiles. A clean, malty body is developed from the pale and light caramel malt. ABV 5.4% Bitterness 35 IBU. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

I think Friday(25)ís comment was spot on for this beer. "Overall, not a bad beer on itís own. If youíre looking for a traditional APA, youíll only be teased with this beer. But, on itís own, it still a good beer to wash down some hearty meals."

12oz bottle. Pours a very light orange color with an average white head. Light aroma of flowers, citrus and biscuit. Initial light malty flavor up front. Finishes bitter and flowery with a bit of a strange aftertaste. Watery texture with ok carbonation. Nothing fancy, something sessionable and refreshing.

Iíll admit, Iím a sucker for American pale ales. The first thing I thought when pouring this beer was "darn, that is a bit light". It poured much almost light amber, much different than the copper red that is distinctive of a pale ale. You can smell the cascade hops, and this provides a bitter citrus aroma, but lacks the malt smell of typical APAís. Flavor is the initial cascade hops, then a malt flavor with hops, possibly a hint of caramel, and ends in caramel hop flavor. Overall, not a bad beer on itís own. If youíre looking for a traditional APA, youíll only be teased with this beer. But, on itís own, it still a good beer to wash down some hearty meals.

12 oz bottle from the variety case. Pours a medium copper with a decent white head- aroma has a slight Diacetyl fruity buttery character- slick, a bit solvetn, ok grassy and citrus hops, and light sharp toasted and carapils malts. Flavor is sharp malts, a bit slick overall- ok grassy and citrus cascade and willamette-like- a bit of tea in the end. Typical Saranac house character in this one.

A nice hop aroma, a little yellowish in color. This is only okay. Some hops for sure but also a bit strained. Certainly not up to par for pale ales.

12 oz bottle, pours a pale-amber color with moderate head. Aroma typical of a pale ale with heavy floral scents. However, the floral aroma was too one-dimensional, almost like a bar of soap. Got much better later in the drink. Taste is moderately bitter. Palate is average. Decent pale ale, nothing special but wont disappoint.
