COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a classic, American-Style pale ale that displays all of the complex bitterness and aroma from the hops of the Yakima Valley in Washington State. By using a top-fermenting ale yeas strain we bring out the floral and herbal flavor profiles. A clean, malty body is developed from the pale and light caramel malt. ABV 5.4% Bitterness 35 IBU. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

Bottle from Costco Yawata. Mild, sweet ice cream cone-like malt, hay, dirt aroma. Dull orange tea color. Minimal head w/ some lacing. Slightly harsh bitterness w/ very strong carbonation (almost like a seltzer). Very astringent and harsh aftertaste. Thin body. My guess is that they use less-than-premium ingredients to produce this beer.

Kirkland makes a decent beer. Actually they bottle and sell a decent beer. For the price and quantity well worth it ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle thanks to billshmeinke. Pours with a clear golden body with a large, fluffy white head. Aromas are grassy, grainy, floral and citrusy hops. Mild oxidation. Flavors are bready, grainy, mild mineral qualities, citrus, light esters. Lively bubbles, dry on the finish.

Clear amber pour with a medium fluffy off-white head that diminishes quickly to an outer ring. Slippery sheets of lacing on the glass. Pale malt, citrus and mild hops in the nose. Light body with a lightly bitter citrusy hops character with bready malt in the background. The finish is short and lightly hoppy. Thoroughly average beer.

Bottle from Kyoto Costco. Citrus hop nose, biscuity malts. Rther mild. Deep gold, close to amber, with a low head. Malty flavor, grass and citrus hops, slightly bready. Light and a bit thin. Ok, but not so special. Good for the price here. Simple but decent.

Bottle. Pours a light yellow with minimal head. Flavor is unremarkable. It goes down easily but there is not much memorable about this one.

Bottle:   Fiery amber, very clear, copper hues, large foamy white head, bits of lacing, light carbonation.   Pale stale wet hop nose, very subtle.   Also has a little pixie stix like sweetness.   Probably not a good sign.   Very purfume like up front, a little dish water/fragrant soap as well.   Wow, I dont think I have had a beer this odd in a while.   Hop bite... wha, where?   I know what that is!   I tied flies as a kid and I remember this quick dry cement stuff I used on the heads of the flies so that it would quickly cure the thread near the eye of the hook.   The backside of this beer tastes like that smell.   Ugh... yeah, this is pretty nasty.   Not worth another sip.   Probably needs a re-rate as this may be the worst micro beer I have ever had.   Something just isnt right here.

A - Pours a clear copper with a slight orange tint and a thin finger of frothy white head. The head fades down fairly quickly leaving behind some lace. S - Aroma is a mix of grassy hop and sweet caramel malt. Bit of biscuit as well. T - Starts off with a mix of herbal hops and some sweet buttery biscuit malt. Through the middle, the caramel comes through a bit and the hops start to fade. Touch of bitterness comes through. Finish is a mix of sweet caramel and some buttery biscuit. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels fairly smooth though a bit watery and muddled. D - Very drinkable. Could have used a bit more hops and a less strong malt presence. Not a very good balance here.

Bottle. Nice copper hue, but beyond the color, there isn’t much that could be put in the "great" category on this.... fairly flat mouthfeel, little flavor, little body ... without technical fault, perhaps, but also without noteworthiness. (#4269, 10/2/2011)

Thanks, Jeff! This one was pretty sub-par, with a muddy amber look to it and a lifeless carbonation that made the beer look as if it was left open overnight and recapped. Very faint nose, just some malt, mash, and a heedless dose of hops. Really no flavor profile to this one at all, just a malty anonymous mess. I hope it was cheap at Costco.
