This is a classic, American-Style pale ale that displays all of the complex bitterness and aroma from the hops of the Yakima Valley in Washington State. By using a top-fermenting ale yeas strain we bring out the floral and herbal flavor profiles. A clean, malty body is developed from the pale and light caramel malt. ABV 5.4% Bitterness 35 IBU. Contract brewed for Costco by the Gordon Biersch Brewing Company under the brewer name Hopfen Und Malz (for the west coast market) and since mid 2009 by Matt Brewing as "New Yorker Brewing Co." (for the east coast market).

Bottle from CostCo: Poured a crystal clear liquid with gold flake tint while soapy foam of head quickly fizzled out. Aroma is sort of stench with grassy like hops but somehow also reminds me of the caramel malt aroma that was in the previous amber ale style. The flavor is bland and lacks any real substance in the body with a watered down taste that is just boring and falling way short of the standard pale ale style.

My house on July 13, 2012. Bottle into pint glass. About one finger of head, which stayed for a decent amount of time. Honey caramel color. Pillowy white lacing on the sides. Decent amount retention. Smelled a healthy whiff of caramel, light lemon citrus hops, peach and plum. Tasted fairly close to the smell. Got some caramel, bread, wheat, lemon, plum, apple, pear, rye and iced tea. Medium body. Oily creamy texture. Above average-to-good carbonation. Long bitter finish. Was my second beer of the 4-beer, variety case from Costco. Started out nice, but the taste and feel were fairly average.

355mL. Clear amber pour. Larger suddy, off-white head. Nose is heavy detergent. Taste is suddy, nutty, dense from residual sugar and specialty malt. Some decent floral and piney hoppiness comes through. Not so bad. Palate is mildly astringent and chemical laden.

golden color, aroma of light malt, slight citrus hops, flavors of citrus hops, grass, bread, light body, not bad considering the price

Bottle from Costco Yawata. Mild, sweet ice cream cone-like malt, hay, dirt aroma. Dull orange tea color. Minimal head w/ some lacing. Slightly harsh bitterness w/ very strong carbonation (almost like a seltzer). Very astringent and harsh aftertaste. Thin body. My guess is that they use less-than-premium ingredients to produce this beer.

Bottle thanks to billshmeinke. Pours with a clear golden body with a large, fluffy white head. Aromas are grassy, grainy, floral and citrusy hops. Mild oxidation. Flavors are bready, grainy, mild mineral qualities, citrus, light esters. Lively bubbles, dry on the finish.

Clear amber pour with a medium fluffy off-white head that diminishes quickly to an outer ring. Slippery sheets of lacing on the glass. Pale malt, citrus and mild hops in the nose. Light body with a lightly bitter citrusy hops character with bready malt in the background. The finish is short and lightly hoppy. Thoroughly average beer.

Bottle from Kyoto Costco. Citrus hop nose, biscuity malts. Rther mild. Deep gold, close to amber, with a low head. Malty flavor, grass and citrus hops, slightly bready. Light and a bit thin. Ok, but not so special. Good for the price here. Simple but decent.

Bottle. Pours a light yellow with minimal head. Flavor is unremarkable. It goes down easily but there is not much memorable about this one.
