A deep and rich traditional stout. Notes of dark chocolate derived from black and amber malts. Bitter sweet finish with a hint of wood smoke. Dark and gorgeous!

Cask at The Hope, Carshalton. Great aroma of dark chocolate and coffee, which are there in the mouthful as well along with roasted malt. Really enjoyable stout.

Cask at Orpington LC, deep black, thin head, cocoa and soy nose, dry and bitter chocolate, hints of sweet fruity malt underneath. Lovely.

Cask at The Hope Carshalton. Black, small off-white foamy head leaves full layer of lacing. Aroma is strong liquorice up front, ash, bit of gravy. Body is medium, quite foamy, very low carbonation. Taste is tangy, intense liquorice, background coffee, vegetal flavours. If you like strong liquorice then you’ll like this. Personally I wasn’t too fussed - too sweet and liquorice heavy for me.

Cask at The George, Croydon. It pours deep brown, with a thick beige head. The nose is coffee, roasted malt, soy sauce and some plastic. The taste is roasted malt, caramel, dark fruit, varnish, leather and milky coffee, with a dry finish. Medium body, low carbonation and soft mouth-feel. An easy drinking stout.
