COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
English: Rich, velvety, chocolaty and soft malty body, balanced medium bitternes and sweetnes with a honey driven extra silky smooth malty finish. Think Fuller’s London Porter married to dark Grand Cru chocolate and genuine Fanø heather honey...

Ernest (5187) - Boulder, USA - SEP 28, 2011
Bottle (BB Apr 1, 2012, ha ha). Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is black (non-opaque, flashlight-tested). Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain), with notes of cardboard, sour milk, and minerals. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, slightly papery. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. The first whiff was a blast of oxidation, wet cardboard through and through. First impulse is the retailer couldn’t move the bottles, fine, I’ll dump it and not bother rating it. But first I look for a bottling date. Best before April, 2012. Which to me suggested it was brewed in 2010 and they assumed it could last 2 years (brewers, come on, just put the bottling date on it, you don’t REALLY know how long it’s gonna hold up if you’ve never even bottled it before, ugh...I’m especially looking at you, De Molen...25 years, are you insane?!). But I see the oldest ratings on here are from this year, so it was obviously brewed in April of 2011. This is only 6 months old. Why is it so oxidized??? And there’s supposedly honey in this? Sigh. Hardly anything but roasted malt and cardboard. Something went wrong somewhere. At least the appearance and mouthfeel help the score, though. Sorry, but...this is a drain pour.

Koelschtrinker (7066) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - APR 26, 2012
