COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s note: Previously called ’Kissmeyer West Coast Pale Ale’

English: Dry, crisp, medium malty body, medium smooth bitternes, big, fruity hop aroma and flavour. Think a bolder and more aromatic version of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

(13.3 % P, 6.0 % ABV, 35 IBU, Colour 20 – 25 EBC).

Deep coppery color with a thick tannish head. Earthy, hoppy, with an herb-like quality. Mint and licorice.

Keg @ The Euston Tap. Medium amber color with a small white head. The nose is some orange peel, light grass, some confier, light toffee. The taste is pale malts, light orange and citrus fruit salad. Notes of caramel. Mild bitterness on the long finish. Smooth, easy to drink. Overall, a solid effort. Just OK. Not really my idea of a ’west coast pale’.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet Nettbutikk. Cloudy amber colored. Low greyish-blond head. Nutty, marzipan-like aroma. A distant whiff of fruity hops. Medium body strength. Strange sweet flavor, like artificial sweetener. Malt-accented, with peppery caramel and nuts. Restrained fruity bitterness. Malty finish with a vague fruity bitterness. A decent beverage, but not a (West Coast) Pale Ale in my book.

Clear amber body, huge beige head. Malty aroma, some caramel, taste is malty too, with straw and a scent of alcohol. A Light fruity hop taste hides in the back. As the label clearly states "Big, fruity hop aroma and flavour" this is a disappointing beer as almost all hops I sense are bittering hops. It’s not a bad beer by any means, it’s just far from the beer both the name and label indicates, in my opinion at least. Accompanying the elsewhere nice bitter hops is a crisp malt finish. I guess I’d have enjoyed this beer more if the name and label didn’t prepare me for a totally different beer than what was inside.

Bottle. Pours a golden bronze colour with dense light tan coloured head. Aromas are dominated by light caramel with some stone fruits in support. A little muted to be honest. Flavours are dominated by sugary sweetness with only the lfeintest hint of hop bitterness to balance. Solid mouthfeel. Slightly odd to be honest.

Clear, dark amber colour (uh, this is a pale ale, isn’t it?) with a very light brown colour that lasts for some time and leaves some lacing. The aroma is rather strong and highly unusual for an APA, it’s malt driven with sweet dark caramel and even some hints of raisins, and the fruity elements are of the dark kind. Moderate sweet taste that lasts into the aftertaste, also a light bitterness in the quite long-lasting finish. The flavours follow the malty path laid out by the aroma: sweet dark caramel, toasted notes, raisin and dark fruits. Good mouthfeel, creamy and smooth texture and quite soft carbonation. Some faint traces of metal in the finish, but not very disturbing. A nice ale, but not something for the hopheads out there.
[50 cl bottle, enjoyed 6 months before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo]
