On tap at Chancey Smith’s in London, ON- A deep brown pour decanted a frothy eggshell cap that ;aced the glass well. Nose was quite toasty, nutty, with rye, wood, and some fruitiness. Tasted quite toasty as well, with a nice nuttiness coming from the mild, but then a pleasant frutiness coming from the galt knife. A nice blend of both.

On tap at the Golden Kiwi, Cambridge. A nice balance of the Mild’s malty sweetness, and the lager’s hoppy finish.

On tap at the Kiwi. Dark brown, with a small white head. Aroma is hoppy, this is the Galt Knife shining through, but also quite malty as well - nice. Taste is good - the maltiness of the mild combined with the hops and the mineral quality of the lager. I would not say it is exceptional - I taste two distinct beers here coming together to form two distinct parts of one beer. But it was very enjoyable and would make for a great session pint if I could ever figure out how to do a session in Cambridge minus the $70 cab ride home :) .

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2011 on tap at the golden kiwi, cause thats the only place you can get it! dark brown with a tan head. hoppy aroma with some dark malt as well. very much a mix of the two beers but the galt knife shine through. the flavour is quite balanced with the malts and hops playing off each other. you get some grainy lager malt and some chewy dark malt and lots of hops. weighs in at around 4% so its sessionable as hell. i hope this stays on at the kiwi.

Just to note, I consulted an admin about this before adding it, mainly to check if I could add it at all. And the style classification is the best approximation for something extremely difficult to define. Had a fresh pint of this at the Golden Kiwi in downtown Galt, Cambridge today. Pours a deep dark rubyish brown with the characteristic rocky Grand River head. The aroma is great, the hop profile of Galt Knife with the malt aspects of the Mill Race, enticing! Flavour is just downright delicious, they blended it just right so that the best aspects of both beers are present to make something entirely new. Bitter hops all the way through met with perfect biscuity-bready lager malts, rounded out with the vanilla-maple sort of malt characters from the Mill Race. The Galt Knife aspects are definitely dominant in the flavour profile, but well in check with the subtle elements of the Mill Race. Awesome. I hope this will be a permanent tap at the Kiwi as I’d love to have endless amounts of it! Check it out for sure if you’re in the area. Everything about it works so well, extremely well integrated. Bravo!
