Serving: from bottle--purchased at Made in Oregon. Aroma: light pumpernickel and vanilla aroma. Appearance: average-sized, creamy, light-brown, initial head with fair lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Dark reddish-brown body. Taste: light acidic initial flavor and moderately sweet toasted bread and vanilla finish with long duration. Palate: medium-to heavy body with oily texture and soft carbonation. Overall: this is an outstanding porter. Great aroma with a flavor to match. Iíd like to try it from the tap.

Bottle at Beermongers. Pours a pure black color with a medium brown head. The aroma is sweet coffee and vanilla. The flavor is very nice; rich, oily, roast and coffee, lots of sweet vanilla. Tasty.

From bottle. Black with tan head. Aroma of dark toasty malts, chocolate, and hint of vanilla. Vanilla is much more prevalent in the flavor, fitting nicely with the dark chocolate and roastiness. Finishes sweet and lingers on the palate.

Bomber from Harry & David in Medford, OR. Pours dark brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is vanilla and what seems to be smoke. Med body. Flavor is vanilla, coffee and a little smoke. Hint of chocolate. Itís very smooth. Almost creamy in texture. It approaches sweet, but it seems slightly on the bitter side. Clearly nothing objectionable here, and itís something of a tasty treat.

Dark with a thin tan head. Smooth, a bit creamy, and a bit sweet. Roasty toasty malt with vanilla, toffee, and cocoa. Balanced overall.

22oz Bottle. The pour was a muddy jet black with an average (1-2 finger) light brown frothy head that reduced to a scattered film and medium collar with good spotty lacing. The aroma was of burnt malts, light resin hops and a leathery yeast with notes of vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted coffee and a touch of smoke. The taste was lightly malty sweet with a bit of vanilla at first, and then a bold bitter roastiness settled in along with hints of chocolate, coffee and a touch of smoke towards the end. The flavor lasted an average time after the swallow with a bitter coffee taste left lying on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was a few steps past medium in body with a dry, oily texture and a soft carbonation. Overall this was a robustly tasty Porter, with a strong vanilla presence that you could actually taste for a change. It also offered a good balance of flavors with a smooth and easy drinkability...

22oz. Apparently is now named the íBackroad Vanilla Porterí with a much different looking label. Iíll change the name here in a second. As for the beer: big vanillaíd nose, hints of sweet roasty malts as well. Flavors are well blended notes of vanilla, and soft notes of coffee, roast, and bitter hops. Smooth, could be a bit louder.
