UPDATED: FEB 28, 2014 Batch #3 Bottle 371/432. Murky brown with a beige head. Aroma of oak wood, malty caramel, some vanilla. Flavour is vinous oak, medium sour. Not what I expected. Reading these reviews I think there should be seperate entries for these Barrel Aged Poorters, as they seem to differ quite a bit. Batch #4 Bottle 323/504. Very different from Batch #3, this one has more in common with the original Poorter and it is sweet rather that sour. Aroma of oak and vanilla. A bit too sweet for my taste.

Bottle 438, batch 2. Aroma nice fruity, barrel influence evident. Hazy dark brown colour with sediment. Taste is complex fruity, with brett sourness. Caramel, light warming alcohol. Very tasty beer, though in no way a porter.

light beige head disappears with some lacing. light brown colour. aroma candysugar, alcohol, vanilla, coconut. taste vanilla, slight sweet, coconut. thin mouthfeel, medium body and carbonation. don’t really see how this is a porter, but interesting nevertheless. bottle 33 cl / bbf jun-2015

Bottle 330 ml, batch 4, bottle 309/504. Poured into a snifter. ABV 7.5% Pours a light brown/dark amber beer with some red hue. Two fingers of off-white head, much smaller than the original Poorter but looks nicer. The foam has good retention and leaves medium lacing around the glass after it collapses. Aroma is heavy on bourbon, some chocolate as well. Taste is sweet, lots of bourbon but less than the aroma led me to believe, light caramel, a hint of smoke. The spices and herbs of the original are still there but only at the finish and quite weak now, their flavour lasts only for a moment. Quite sweet at first, mildly bitter on the aftertaste, although the bourbon flavour returns and covers the bitterness almost entirely. Medium thin body, thinner than the original and with low carbonation that works pretty well. Overall quite good, although I find it difficult to choose between the barrel aged version and the original, each has its own qualities.
