sinkhole (117), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Jan 24, 2008 Pours dark brown with a minimal off-white head. Aromas of roasted malts and nuts, carries through to the inital taste. There’s a slight caramel sweetness as well. Overall the flavouring is too subtle and watered down though to be considered more than average. MrManning (1415), London, Ontario, Canada Aug 26, 2007 341 ml bottle- This one pours deep bronzed brown with some transparency.Tiny bubbled head is short lived. Malty, caramel aroma is mild and is mixed in with some hops, and a touch of molasses and coffee. Nutty sweet flavour is a touch watered down, coffee, some milk chocolate. This one has potential, but the finish is too thin and watery. JohnBarleycorn (370), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 3, 2007 Pleasing deep-brown seeps to blood-red around the edges. Short-lived head. Tantalizing aromas of milk chocolate and coffee with lots of sugar. Medium-bodied flavour leans heavily on the coffee accents, swelling towards the middle and ending with a burnt malt medium-length finish. Successfully rides the middle between drinkability and savourability. One of Ontario’s better darks. blankboy (2499), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 1, 2006 Bottle. Pours a dark ruby-brown with an average size somewhat-lasting creamy tan head. Aroma of caramel malt, a hint of nuts and cocoa -- there’s also a bit of a "bottle" or metal aroma there too. Flavour’s decent but pretty thin -- it’s caramel malt and nuts and that’s pretty much it, it could use some hops in there in my opinion. It’s also a little overly sweet for my liking. Light bodied. Better then some other local Brown Ales but still not very good. HogTownHarry (3141), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Apr 29, 2006 Bottle (341ml). Poured clear mahogany with a small off-white head. Burnt syrup cola and nut-oil aroma, light artificial chocolate - pretty fake and harsh - taste is the same, even harsher, with burnt chocolate candy and ... ugh. Mouthfeel is flat, harsh and syrupy, light body. Not good.
