Oakes (6979), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Nov 26, 2000 Thin, somewhat harsh, astrigent flavour at times. Other times, it’s just empty-tasting. muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA May 23, 2004 Bottle. Clear walnut color, very little head. Decent nutty nose, hints of caramel and grass. Initial strong, sweet hazelnut flavor fades rather quickly to a dry, somewhat cardboardish conclusion. A bit grapy towards the end also...a little too thin. Nothing to get excited about. maeib (4012), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Apr 7, 2004 Bottled - Smokeless Joes Toronto. Second successive Brown Ale after the Black Oak version. This is reasonably similar but falls down on all departments in view of its thinner nature both in the nose and flavour. Still has a reasonable nuttiness though and is drinkable. CapFlu (3340), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Dec 1, 2002 Pleasant deep-earth colour with a nice cocoa malt finish. Well-balanced. Lubiere (3324), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 12, 2003 Updated: Mar 5, 2004Nice nutty nose...intense taste of chestnuts, with a bitterness which is weel balnaced with the maltyness/nuttiness...it starts softly then reaches a beautiful peakk at the end...tatsed in draft at Black Tomato
2) Bottle version. Nutty malt aroma with some caramel. Dark brown ith a foamy moka head. Nuttiness comes out withbut much less intense than the draft, and this is very thin beer....Amsterdam messed up a fine beer. Need to rerate down. Gaveit a 3.8 initially, now look at this
