3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is a pretty decent imperial stout. A little too much licorice for my taste, but has the requisite darkness, heaviness, and chocolate to suit my preferences.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled, 330ml from The Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam. Virtually black with tan head. It’s been mentioned before on here, but I had the same, expecting the intense chocolate malt roastiness, this proved to be a lighter, fruitier beer. There is a sweetish liqorice with a plummy flavour, thinner than would be ideal. Reasonable enough but not as advertised.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
33 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 29.04.2011
Aroma is somewhat sour with earthy notes, some roasted malt and licorice. Flavour is sourish and slightly acidic with soy sayce, somewhat salty licorice and coffee notes. Thin and sour, not very good for a Belgian IS.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours a thin looking hazed brown to black with a thin beige head. A chocolate and roasty aroma. Body is a bit thin, light spicy booze, roast and chocolate. More chocolaty roast, and slow warming alcohol on the finish. Disappointed by this one.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Thanks for sharing Ron!
This one was a bit strange but it had a big disadvantage going after a rather decent beer. Sharp vegetable nose. Palate was standard IS but a bit thin. Improved as it warmed.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Black bodied, as expected, but from there, expectations were a false roadmap to experiencing this brew. The body was topped by some airy bubbles, but lacked foamyness. The melanoiding maltiness that evaporates into the air is more reminiscent of a doppelbock than of a stout. No genuine roastiness is present, which is unusual for this style. Sweet and malty aroma with some cider sugar mixed in. Rather flat-bodied, full of melanoidins, prune sugar, and sherry. Though it lacks any real roastiness, it does have a touch of coffee liquor flavor at the end that curls up with melanoiding, and a sweet sherry chocolate finish.
