Kleveretien Oak Aged is our barrel aged version of the Kleveretien. For our barrel aged experiments like this one we started up a cooperation with Pirlot. The 2012 version is whisky barrel aged for 6 months (Belgian Owl). The 2013 version will be wine barrel aged.

On tap at The Trappist. Pours near black with a thick foamy tan head and a strange treacle and anise aroma. There is a dry toasty dark malt flavor with some fruity esters. Lots of oak.

Draft at Ei8ht Ball, served in a taster. Pours a deep brown color with a small beige head that leaves a creamy ring and a few arcs of trailing lace. Very, very sweet aroma - vanilla, cream, marshmallow, milk chocolate, and not much else. The flavor is a less sweet version of the same, with some balancing earth and tobacco. Roast only shows up in the aftertaste, very faintly. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. Not quite sure what this is supposed to be, but it doesn’t totally work. Interesting enough, but out of balance and too sweet.

4oz on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Totally hazy brown red color. Very dark. Ring of khaki head. Really interesting aroma. Toasty, some whiskey oak, some caramel. Milk chocolate. Raisin, fig. Medium to bigger body. Kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Mildly slick. Very dry finish. Moderate-plus sweet taste, mild bitter, some warmth. Tasty, fun beer to try and sip on. A bit too try though. Kind of musty. Interesting belgian dark strong ale.

Draft to taster at Ei8ht Ball. Pours a clear dark cola brown color with a small yellow beige head that doesn’t last and leaves spotty lace. The aroma and flavor have a big berry/pomegranate fruit character, just a touch of roast, oak, whiskey barrel character, some sweet malt though the barrel cuts quite a bit of it, the alcohol remains well hidden. I liked this, but the wine barrel version was a touch better.

33 cl bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu.
Pours dark hazy amber color with a medium head. Lots of dark berries on the nose, oak, vinous notes and sourish plums. Dark fruity flavor, some berries and caramel, red wine and some wood. Interesting.

Poured a murky, dark medium brown with a frothy tan head. Aroma of vinous sweetness, roast malt. Full body, flavour is musty, vinous, slightly sweet, dry end.

Alengrin (3549) - BELGIUM - AUG 10, 2014
Impressive oak-aged imperial with sinister label and deeply beige, stable foam, colour jet black, no light manages to get through. Dense and powerful aroma of liquorice, coffee powder, bayleaf, leather, coriander seed, molasses, blackberries and bitter chocolate. Profound dark malts in the mouth, full, oily and viscous mouthfeel, deeply roasted bitter with spicy hoppiness in the utterly long, dry, complex, warming finish. What a great and unexpected surprise that the Nest is capable of creating this, an imperial stout nearly as good as almost any Anglo-Saxon example.

Old barrely nose some basement notes whiskey dark roast feety weirdness. Black pour. Musty barrel Flavors whiskey dark chocolate. Roasted grains. Lingering whiskey.

Drank on Turnhout beer festival. Nice dark color with a beige foam. Aroma has notes of coffee, roasted malt and some sour hints. Flavor is roasted malt and coffee hints. Low carbonation and medium body with a dry roasted malt. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone 4S

Draft at Max’s Taphouse. Pours straight black with caramel lacing. Aroma is vegetal, soy sauce, booze. Taste is big boozy stout with some sweet/savory notes. Walks the line between the two and hits some odd notes (carrot? fish sauce?). The whiskey takes over and gives your the caramel/sweetness this desperately needs, but not enough.
