33cl Bottle from ABS Drinks Winksele. Deep dark reddish brown colour, off-white head. Aroma of plenty of star anise, Dutch liquorice, dark fruits, quite sweet syrupy and malty. Flavour is quite sweet, star anise, alcohol, sweet malts, molasses, light spicy bitter finish with some alcohol heat. Medium-bodied. Too sweet imho.

Bottle from Beer Planet, Brussels. Pours a near-black deep brown body, small off-white head. Aroma is faint coffee and chocolate and hints of herbs, grains and...well, not much else. Loads of estery phenolic tones with some dark chocolate, anisseed and coffee in the back. Medium body, high carbonation. Not very successfull IMO.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a murky brownish with loads of floaties and a creamy beige head. Aroma of dark, dried fruit, somewhat earthy and oxidized - very Belgian! Rich, sweet body, again figs and dates and mold - quite rustic. Some late roast and hops. Quite messy but still strangely enjoyable. 040413

Bottle @ home ... It pours very dark brown almost black with a large forming beige head.... The aroma is caramel, light roasted malt, some floral notes....the flavor is licorice, roasted malt, some yeast and dark fruits.....
thin body.... alcohol well hidden...

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a light tan head and tons of lacing. Interesting flavors, slightly sweet with alot of dark fruits though the anise is not much of a factor.

4oz pour at Max’s Belgian Fest. Pours a clear, dark amber with some thin, off white head. Nose of prune, raisin, nuts, malt, a little booze. Flavor is sweet, nutty, a little coffee, prune, raisin, coconut. Full, sweet finish.

Draft, Max’s Belgianfest. Small beige head atop cola-dark brown body. Aroma is medium sweet, plum/raisin, caramel, light berry. Taste is moderately sweet, raisin, some plum, caramel, light smoke, chocolate. Medium-full body, some stickiness.

Flavor is dry, bready malts and earthy hops forward with supporting dark fruit esters and a hint of spice; dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
