COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Zwart & Straf Winterbier

Pours a very dark, cola brown with a large, long-retaining, sudsy, tan head. Chocolate, coffee, and seltzer nose. A pretty flat, lifeless mouthfeel. A lot of the same notes in the aromas are noted in the flavors; just in more vibrancy. Plus, prune and raisin come through boldly. Some cherry tartness is noted on the edges of the tongue.

Poured a clear, medium brown color with almost no head. Overall, too sweet in my opinion. Aroma of rich caramel malt, molasses, and raisins. Flavor was quite sweet without my bitterness for balance. Drinks pretty smooth for 10% abv and hides it well.

Great stuff. Pours dark brown with good head and lacing. Aroma of Belgian yeast with florals, some raisin and a dash of hay. A light dose of citrus and apricot floating around, with hints of smoke. Nicely balanced - certainly hides the alcohol well. Soft carbonation. Bottle.

Bottle. Pours a murky dark brown, almost ebony, fizzy tan head. CO2 and sticky sweet dark brown sugar notes on the nose. Fizzy light body, not much there. Licorice and sugars on the mid palate. Long sticky finish.

Bottle. It pours an almost clear body, brown in color and with a small, dense, beige head. The aroma has a faint touch of cellar and alcohol, with dried fruits and caramel. Quite weak, and that goes for the flavor too. Some roasted hints and chocolate, with the alchohol well hidden. The star anise is luckily pretty subdued. Some bitterness towards the end. Full body, with a soft carbonation level. A bit short finish. Overall, a pretty decent one, not bad at all. 131231

Bottle from Rare Beer Club. Looks like cola with a generous tan head. Nose is licorice and floral yeastiness. Tastes sweet and spicy, rich and thick, delicious, anise is there but tasteful. Very nice!
