Zwart & Straf Winterbier

Bottle, bought @ Willems, Grobbendonk.
Pours deep brown chestnut with a firm, staying, creamy, beige head. Fine lacing. Aroma is lovely, plums, port, sherry, chocolate, sweet liqourice, light black currant. Medium carbonation, fine creamy and dry mouthfeel. Flavour has good sweetness at first, estery, plums, raisins, Belgian sugar, chocolate. Dry, dusty and quite bitter cocoa-notes in the finish. Mildly warming. Lovely.

Aroma is a bit sweet and spicy. The flavour is sweet with some dark fruits at first then aniseed and a hint of caramel in the finish. Texture is thick and oily. Reminds me of Black Jack sweets.

I don’t remember much about this beer since it’s been a while I drank it. From my notes I can only see that I found it to be very average with a little too much alcohol. Still pretty drinkable, but I think one is enough.

Bottle from Ohtsuki. Caramel, licorice, dark chocolate, alcohol fumes, raisins and dried figs in the aroma. Nice, rich, stewed aroma. Black with a thin head. Roasty flavor, with alcohol, dried fruits, burnt caramel, stewed fruit. Licorice. Interesting, more roasty and burnt than expected. Thick, rich palate, though not top heavy. Nice, interesting, different. Good stuff.
