COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Zwart & Straf Winterbier

Reall dark near black beer with a small quickly disappearing white head. Nose is herby, anise, licorice, port wine. Body is medium, texture oily, carbon fine. Taste is sweet. Palate is anis and licorice, hints of alcohol and herbal bonbons refresh its taste. Licorice finish, mix of sweetness and bitterness. B@H

UPDATED: JUN 11, 2013 Bottle@home. Dark brown coloured with a small off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark fruits and laurel. Medium carbonation. Taste is medium sweet and bitter with a long duration, creamy and dry, spicy, roasty with dark fruits...lots of laurel/anise in the aftertaste and a bit of chocolate. Strange "strong Belgium" but i kinda love it!

Pours a deep mahogany color with an eggshell three finger head. Aromas are well balanced earthy herbal spice, rich dark fruit, burnt brown sugar and a nice subtle touch of caramel. On the palate its soft and inviting with nice balance between the herbal spices and sweet burnt sugars. A true quad with great mouthfeel and a deep lingering finish ! Must get more of this one.

Dark brown color with some sediment and generous compact head. Simple aroma, some roasted malt and dark caramel. The mouthfeel is affected by the high carbonation, there is some flavor of chocolate and roasted malt, and too much liquorice for a Belgian beer; some alcohol feeling in the end.
Average drink.

Bottle@Home. Raisin, licorice and plum aroma. Dark red brown, beige firm head, good lace. Sweet, light bitter, unclean, licorice wood, laurel, yeasty. thin for a 10% beer, warming. Bit straightforward, very Belgian. With a little bit more body...

erickok (3699) - Tours (and Paris), FRANCE - AUG 24, 2012
Mahogony brown body and frothy tan head. Aroma has fermented fruit, dark tones of dades and red berries, cake and a sour hint. Taste has both a light fruity sweetness as well as a good spicy base, with cinnamon and fennel. Body isn’t very full and drinks smoothly, sugary. Sticky but plesant aftertaste to bring more flavour nuances. After a few sips the special touch fades away though. The abundant yeast accentuates this further. A well developed brew.

(Bottled) Very dark brown with a small, mostly fading, lightly lacy head. Aroma of roasted malt, dried fruit, anise and licorice, warming alcohol notes. Flavor has lots of anise with lightly roasted, sweetish maltiness. Gets a medicinal carbon feel with yeast poured in. Medium to full body, soft CO2, warming but hides the alcohol. Quite simple brew, something between an Imperial Porter and a Quadrupel. 6446
