Zwart & Straf Winterbier

Licht rokerig. Zoet gaat over in bitter. Medium body, medium co2. Palet is niet veel bijzonders.

Draught at Pressklubben, Stockholm. Clear deep amber beer with a beautiful lasting beige head. Fruity yeast aroma, rye bread, spicy notes, caramel, some figs. Fruity flavor, caramel, raisins, grapes, warming alcohol, hay, dark bread, some banana and licorice. Quite nice.

Dark sided Belgian strong, quite simple, but enjoyable. Moderate to light roasted malts, lovely berry like dark fruits, light licorice. Moderate sweet with moderate to light malty bitterness. Bit messy but decent, somewhat between stout and quad.

750 ml bottle poured a clear reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of toffee, caramel, licorice, molasses and light dried fruit. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of toffee, brown sugar, light licorice and light dried fruit with a smooth lingering brown sugar finish.

Clear dark brown to black with a thin tan head. Roasted malts and dark fruits dominate the aroma. Taste is sweet with some licorice notes. Nice winter beer.

Bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a thick frothy tan head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, licorice, yeast and dried fruit. Flavor was quite sweet with chocolate, caramel, dried dark fruit, yeast, licorice and raisins. Oily texture, medium-full body, medium carbonation.

butelka, warka do 11/09/2016. ciemne, brazowo-czarne z bardzo ladna piana. aromat to glownie anyzek, czy moze raczej zelki anyzkowe - specyficznie. sa tez jakies opiekane slody a la skorka od razowca, troszke melasy, lukrecji, jakichs innych poza anyzkiem przypraw, nawet ciut pikantnych, troche ciemnych owocow, ciut banana... przyjemna paleta. w ustach dosc analogicznie, w slodka strone, lekko wyklejajace mimo, ze nie ma odczucia duzej tresciwosci. srednie wysycenie, niestety dosc ewidentny alkohol, goryczka odczuwalna choc niewysoka. przyzwoity bardzo, solidny sredniak

Drank with Matt after the Hungry Ghosts' last gig. Dark hazy maple red-brown, medium creamy tan head with small fizziness, spotty legs. Smells of moderate biscuity dark malt and clove, light spice and banana, yeast, moderate grassy hop that balances the Belgian flavours, some cola. Taste is orange, moderate malt, spice, dry and somewhat stony finish. Somewhat thin. Body is medium, slick, herbal/mint, gentle spice, lightly lemony malty finish. Booze well hidden. Yeasty Belgian maltiness but not too heavily so, some grassy crisp bitterness to balance.

Bottle from Craftissimo at home after final Hungry Ghosts show. Dark brown nutty pour - very Belgian-looking. Persistent thin tan head. Aroma is Belgian-y, dubbel/quadrupel-y mix of dark fruit and spice though not too much. Some toffee too. Taste is similar but slightly hoppier and more herbal. Not too heavy on the palate. Biscuit malt and boozy warmth on the finish. Warmth lasts. Not my style still but this isn't bad.

Bottle, strong gashing after opening the bottle - not as strong as in the BA version but still some small explosion. Pours brown with red reflexes and a very high buy also very thin and fast falling head. In aroma there is a mix of a belgian ale and a stout with bretty barnyard notes, a lot of, licorice, apricots, caramel but also some chocolate and hint of coffee. Taste is nicely balanced with a strong foreground sweetness and a quite long roast bitterness. A bit to high carbonation, but quite nice drinkable.
