Zwart & Straf Winterbier

Pours a deep mahogany color with an eggshell three finger head. Aromas are well balanced earthy herbal spice, rich dark fruit, burnt brown sugar and a nice subtle touch of caramel. On the palate its soft and inviting with nice balance between the herbal spices and sweet burnt sugars. A true quad with great mouthfeel and a deep lingering finish ! Must get more of this one.

Bottle, bought @ Willems, Grobbendonk.
Pours deep brown chestnut with a firm, staying, creamy, beige head. Fine lacing. Aroma is lovely, plums, port, sherry, chocolate, sweet liqourice, light black currant. Medium carbonation, fine creamy and dry mouthfeel. Flavour has good sweetness at first, estery, plums, raisins, Belgian sugar, chocolate. Dry, dusty and quite bitter cocoa-notes in the finish. Mildly warming. Lovely.

Countbeer (4031) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - DEC 20, 2011
Bottle: Medium vast and slow disappearing light brown head on top of an almost completely black beer (just a tiny dark brown shine on the edges). Smells roasted malts, raisin, barley, spices, anice, brown sugars, oatmeal. Taste is a nice mix of roasted malts, sweet like fruit: raisin, prunes and brown sugars, coffee comes more through together with a nice bitterness, where the bitterness takes gently over. Also notes of spices, some grains, hint of something like sweet soya and a light sharpness but well balanced and disappears easily into the depths of this beer. Not that it is that deep, but it is good in taste! A nice and good bitterness in the aftertaste with some hints of anice, roasted malts and herbs like grass. Low to medium carbo, soft mouthfeel, medium to full body and a (light) creamy texture. I hate the term Belgian strong ale for this one! I like this beer.

UPDATED: JUN 11, 2013 Bottle@home. Dark brown coloured with a small off-white head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark fruits and laurel. Medium carbonation. Taste is medium sweet and bitter with a long duration, creamy and dry, spicy, roasty with dark fruits...lots of laurel/anise in the aftertaste and a bit of chocolate. Strange "strong Belgium" but i kinda love it!

prima bier

Reall dark near black beer with a small quickly disappearing white head. Nose is herby, anise, licorice, port wine. Body is medium, texture oily, carbon fine. Taste is sweet. Palate is anis and licorice, hints of alcohol and herbal bonbons refresh its taste. Licorice finish, mix of sweetness and bitterness. B@H

On tap at Monks Kettle. Pours pitch black with a modest tan head and a chocolate and treacle aroma. There is a full-bodied dark malt flavor with a smooth chocolate finish. Very tasty.
